I don't need to describe to you what we did all night in that room, because I'm sure you can imagine it. The night passed and we slept all through the day. I also ordered pretty much everything that was on the menu because they had Alexander's credit card registered, and I figured he wouldn't notice. I also used the phone to call home, where they'd all assumed I was dead in a pit. I assured my mother I was fine, and I told her I'd be back in a couple of days, without being sure I was telling the truth. I had no idea what Alexander had planned to do once he'd find out what I was, and neither did Dennis. I could feel he was nervous about it, and he also felt helpless, like he did in most situations related to Alexander.
We were getting dressed at around 5.30 pm, while we waited for the sunlight to completely fade. I put on the same dress Jacqueline had lent to me the night before and I washed my face. I looked radiant, as I did the first time I'd drunk Dennis' blood. It was probably unnoticeable to the human eye, but I could see it. I put my hair up in a ponytail and I put on Jacqueline's high boots as I watched Dennis getting dressed. He put on his black jeans and his plain white shirt. He looked so good. He always looked so good. The last rays of sun reflected in his blue eyes in a perfect way, and that made me remember something.
"Hey, did you know Alexander can walk in the sun?" I asked. Dennis sat next to me to put on his shoes as I zipped up the last boot.
"Yeah, when I met him he could already do that." he said. I looked at him with surprised eyes.
"Do you know how he does it?" I asked as I got up from the bed and fixed my dress. Leather could be so uncomfortable.
"Not really. I asked Jacqueline once, but she wouldn't tell me." he said as he finished putting on his shoes.
"Those two have a weird relationship." I pointed out. Dennis stood up and walked in front of me.
"They love each other more than either of them could love anybody else." he said, then he put his hands on my waist. "But I don't want to talk about them." he said and then he kissed me.
I pulled away from him before we got too into it. He held on to my waist and my arms were still around his neck, but now we were just looking at each other, and feeling what the other felt. He felt a mixture of things, as most people do. He was scared, probably because we didn't know what awaited us outside, but he was also grateful that we were together. I also felt relief coming from him, probably because he was able to hold me after imagining me dead.
"Dennis." I called his name and he smiled. "I know you don't trust Alexander," the mere mention of his name made Dennis tense up. "but I don't think he wants to hurt me." I couldn't explain it, like most times, but I had the feeling Alexander wanted to avoid hurting me. I didn't know why, but I just knew it. I looked into his eyes and I believed him when he told me he wouldn't hurt me.
"You trust him?" he went from simply tense to kind of angry.
"I mean, I wouldn't go as far as to say I trust him, but the fact that he didn't take me to Ophelia must count for something, right?" Dennis' arms fell to his sides. He was mad at me. I took my hands off his neck and he took a step back.
"He's not to be trusted." he said.
"I know, you've already said that, but I just don't understand..." three knocks on the door interrupted me. Dennis walked past me to open it and Alexander and Jacqueline showed up behind it.
Alexander was wearing a black shirt with a grey blazer on top, and black pants. He looked incredibly handsome and tall, as usual, with his smug smile and his blue eyes. Next to him was Jacqueline wearing a golden tight dress that made her look like she was dipped in gold and she had her long black hair straight and loose down to her butt. He had his left arm around her waist, holding her tight and close with his big hand, and she had her right arm around his neck. They looked like a painting.
