*They are now both 14 years old*

I rubbed my chin as I watched the video upload onto YouTube. It had been a usual Reasons Why Dan's A Fail video, but Phil made an appearance since I had asked him to. He wasn't a YouTube sort of guy aparently, but I could tell he had had fun making it.  Expressing our feelings to my very little subscribers... how very fun!

"Dan, my mum said you could come round tonight when the video is uploaded." Phil's voice echoed out of the phone. It was on speaker, resting on the table beside me, and Phil was all I could hear. I checked the percentage: 96%.

"I'll be over soon. By the way, my mum wants to know whether you're definately allowed to come."

"Yes, I've already said so!" Phil laughed. "I wouldn't want to stay in wet old England for much longer anyway!"

I laughed with him. My family and I were going to Lanzarote for two weeks, and we had invited Phil as he was my best friend after all. Also, Phil had never been abroad. "It's done. I'm coming over." I shut my laptop and grabbed my black leather jacket from my bed and ran down the stairs. Adrian was playing Mario on his DS on the floor, so I shot him an odd look before hurrying out of the door into the cold. The wind whistled my name into my ears, and I shuddered, even though I was used to it by now. There were always whispers, no matter where I went, so I always ignored them. It was better that way.

I arrived at Phil's house fifteen minutes later, trying to flatten my messy hair, and spotted him peering out of his window. I waved up at him, and he pointed to the ladder leaning against the wall inside the open garage. I frowned at him, and he kept pointing until I finally realised that

he wanted me to get the ladder. I did and showed it to him. He then pointed at his window, so I leaned the ladder against the house and climbed up towards his window. It wasn't very high, which was good as the ladder wasn't very long. After seconds of climbing, I managed to grab the window and pull myself through. Phil helped me, roaring with laughter at our failed attempts at sign language.

"Why did I have to climb a ladder?" I asked him, throwing myself onto his bed like I owned it. It was practically my room away from room.

"Because my mum doesn't know you're here." His eyes glistened.

"But you said-"

"I lied. I'm sorry, I'm not good at lying, but I just needed to speak to you." Phil licked his lips, about to speak, but someone shouted from downstairs. Phil jumped, looking shocked, before running to open his door. He shouted back down. "What?"

"Why is there a ladder leading up to your room?"

I heard Phil curse. "I used it to climb up. The door was locked."

"No it wasn't. I left it open for you."

"No it was locked." He slammed the door shut, looking annoyed. What had he been about to tell me? It looked as if I wouldn't find out as he was ushering me towards the window. The ladder was still there, so I clambered onto it and slid down, glancing at his disturbed face one more before jogging back home.

Sorry this chapter is short guys but I just wanted an intro to their characters now as they are older :-)
