Kai was sitting on his bed, scrolling through his phone. Lloyd was on a small mission with Zane, Nya and Jay were trying to create something, Misako and Wu were with Cyrus Borg, and Cole was cooking. Kai hoped Cole didn't think he was making dinner, no way is Kai eating that.
"Kai?"
Kai looked up to see his sister in the doorway. "Hey sis. What's up?"
"Jay and I are going to get parts for our creation and Cole's going to buy some more food. Could you watch Morro while we're gone?"
"Since when does he need a babysitter?" Kai asked. "It's been a few years, he doesn't need one."
Nya shrugged. "Just make sure nothing gets destroyed while we're gone. Lloyd and Master Wu are the only ones that can calm him down, and they're both not here. Keep him in check."
"You don't trust him, do you?"
"Do you?" Nya left.
Did Kai trust Morro? Of course not. He almost murdered them all. Lloyd seemed to trust him, they spent a lot of time together, and it honestly ticked Kai off. How did Morro manage to trick him? Lloyd's trust went down after his incident with Harumi, Kai knew it. He was just waiting for Morro to betray them and attack, aiming to destroy Ninjago.
Kai put his phone down and walked by Morro's room, cracking the door open. Morro was doing his daily routines that Wu had him do, it was to help him get used to having human body. At the moment he was lifting small weights, getting used to actually feeling them in his hands. He looked up at Kai and paused his routine.
"Hey. The others are gone and I was going to make some leftovers from Chen's Noodle House. You want any?"
Morro shrugged. "I'm good."
Kai rolled his eyes and left, deciding to make Morro some anyways. The former ghost barely ate, he wasn't used to having to eat three meals a day to be healthy.
The noodles were reheating, Kai leaned against the counter with his arms crossed.
How does Lloyd even trust Morro, he's gonna be crushed when he betrays us, Kai thought. Letting him stay here was the worst decision Lloyd and Wu have ever made. He got out the two bowls of noodles and for a second his mind wondered if he should put something in Morro's bowl.
Kai shook that thought off immediately. Sure, he didn't trust Morro, but he'd never kill him.
After pushing the door open with his foot he went in, making Morro pause from his routine again.
"Yeah?"
"I brought you some noodles." Kai handed him the bowl that already had some chopsticks sticking out of it.
"I said I was fine." Morro mumbled but his stomach growled.
Kai took a bite and watched as Morro struggled with the chopsticks. Kai gave him a sideways look and Morro's face grew red as he kept trying. Kai sighed and reached over, showing him where to put his hands.
"Did Wu ever give you chopsticks to use?"
Morro shook his head. "He'd just give me a fork or something."
"Oh."
Kai sat silently, watching the former ghost eat. Morro didn't look sinister, like he was going to snap and kill them all. Morro seemed more innocent, in this world he wasn't used to. Morro was sensitive, and Kai didn't mean mentally, he meant physically. Stubbing a toe might feel as close to death as it gets for him, but to Morro it's a whole other level. Morro isn't used to pain, he isn't used to actually feeling.
Kai shook himself out of his thoughts and realized Morro was looking at him. Kai turned his eyes away but Morro lightly laughed.
"You guys still don't trust me, do you?"
"I-I mean-"
Morro shrugged. "You don't hide it or anything. Plus, I overheard Nya talking to Jay about having you watch me. It's pretty obvious."
"What did you expect? You almost killed us all. I don't know how you convinced Lloyd to trust you, but it's not working on me."
Morro flinched. "I didn't trick him, he's the one who tried to talk to me!"
Kai rolled his eyes. "Yeah right. Do you really care about him?"
"Of course I do!"
"Sure you do."
Morro narrowed his eyes. "What makes you think I don't care about Lloyd?"
"Maybe because you tried to murder him?"
Morro groaned and put his palms against his eyes. "That was years ago, I've changed." His voice trailed off in the end and Kai got a good look at his eyes as Morro moved his hands away. Morro looked upset, hurt. Kai sighed, rubbing his forehead.
"You don't look evil." He mumbled.
The former ghost stayed quiet.
"Sorry. Lloyd's right, I've gotta trust you."
"Nah. You don't have to. I almost killed you guys, I don't expect you to suddenly trust me."
Kai chuckled, making Morro look sideways at him. "What?"
"You're a softie, I'm wondering what made me so suspicious of you."
"No I'm not!"
"Dude, are We seriously going to forget about when you-"
"No-"
"Freaked out about the-"
"Kai-"
"Fire alarm?"
Morro groaned. "It was loud, and I'd never heard one of those before! It's not my fault I wasn't prepared to be woken up by loud beeping! Plus, how about we remember that trip to the beach when you refused to even touch the water?"
Kai's face reddened in embarrassment. "Neither did you!"
"Yeah, well, I have a reason! For so many years water would kill me, it's expected for me to not like it! You're just scared of it." He smirked.
Kai gently shoved his shoulder as Morro laughed. "You know, you aren't so bad."
"Yeah. Neither are you, for a ninja."
"Sorry about those things I said. I was being an idiot."
Morro shrugged. "It's fine, really. I didn't expect anybody to even be able to look at me, and here we are. Laughing at your fear of water."
"You're scared of it too!"
Morro made a fake look of offense. "Me? Scared? What could you possibly mean?"
"Oh, shut up." Kai laughed.
What the two didn't know was that Lloyd had returned from his mission and was standing by the door, smiling, glad his two friends, no, brothers were getting along.
