Namaste! I am Samskrtam. People also call me Devavani, the language of Gods.
Most youngsters identify me as the old, complex Indo-Aryan language in which ancient texts such as the Vedas, Puranas and Upanishads are written.
Well, I would not deny the fact that I am old. If you ask me to quantify, I would say I am about 3500 years old. But, am I really complex and difficult to understand? Before you answer that question - Have you even tried to understand me? Have you made the efforts to learn about me before stereotyping me?

Well, then let me walk you through a few facts about my life.

Sapta Sindhavah, the area of the ancient seven rivers is my Janmabhoomi, place of birth. I belong to the Indo-European family of languages. Greek, Hittite, Latin, Gothic, Norse and Avestan are my relatives. As time passed by, I traveled to various parts of the world including parts of Europe and now, when I look back, it has been a beautiful journey with a lots of ups and downs.
कालायतस्मैनमः Kalaya Tasmai Namaha Everything is enslaved by time. Everything changes with time. Nothing is eternal.
No one can escape from the clutches of time, I could not too. But, it is not something that I detest. I have evolved with the passage of time. A few years after my birth, I grew up to become Vedic Sanskrit. Scholars wrote the Rigveda with my help. Soon, this journey led me to help scholars in writing the other Vedas, that is, the Yajurveda, the Samaveda and the Atharvaveda. Along with the Vedas, I also helped in writing the Brahmanas, the Aranyakas and the Upanishads.
Ah! Those were the days! The golden days of my life!
A few more years passed by and I evolved into Classical Sanskrit. This is when my life got a structure and I became a little more formal. My friends Panini and Patanjali helped me through this journey of formalization through their works Astadhyayi (Eight Chapter Grammar) and Mahabhasya respectively.
A few years later, Prakrit and other colloquial forms took birth and I feel glad to have such amazing relatives! They have helped me evolve as much as I have helped them and it feels great to be a family!

Now moving on to the point of discussion about me being complex and incomprehensible, well, Brahmi and Devanagari are the scripts that have helped me help the people who wish to understand and communicate through me.
There are a set of Sandhis (rules) of these scripts. It does take efforts to learn them but when you understand the nitty-gritty and nuances of it, you will enjoy the beauty!
