✨Hello! I am Tulu, an Indian Sub-language.✨
Now you must be wondering, in a country with so many other languages, why is a Sub-language given importance?
That's because, India is a country where unity lies in diversity and all languages are treated equally.

I belong to the southern branch of the family of Dravidian languages. I descend from where most dravidian languages descend, namely the proto-dravidian.
Now, you must be wondering what proto-dravidian is? Well, it's the linguistic reconstruction of all dravidian languages which include Kannada, Tamil, Telugu, Gondi, Kurukh, and many more.
I originate in the southern part of India. My native speakers are referred to as Tuluva or Tulu people and therefore the geographic region is on the side, known as Tulu Nadu.
Many assume that Tulu could be a mixture of Tamil and Kannada. However it's not so. Separated early from Proto-South Dravidian, I even have many options not found in Tamil-Kannada.

Did you recognize that I have numerous accents? The foremost accents are:
✨Brahmin dialect that is spoken by Tulu Brahmins.
✨Jain dialect which is spoken by the Jains of Tulu Nadu.
✨Common dialect which is spoken by the bulk of individuals of Tulu Nadu.
✨Tribal dialect which is spoken by social group people. It closely resembles the Common dialect.

Interesting, right? After you begin to understand something, you want to know more and more about it. That's what a language does.
✨Mangalore, the second largest and a major city of Karnataka, is the chief and largest city of Tulu Nadu.
✨Udupi, Kasaragod and Puttur are the other major cities of this region.
✨The Indian census report of 2011 reported a total of 1,846,427 native Tulu speakers in India. The 2001 census had reported a total of 1,722,768 native speakers.
✨According to one estimate reported in 2009, Tulu is spoken by 3 to 5 million speakers in the world. There is some difficulty in counting Tulu speakers who have migrated from their native region because they usually get counted as Kannada speakers in Indian Census reports.
✨Until the sixteenth century, there was no serious literature as the attainment level was below four p.c at that point.

Some tulu scripts exist, however they're solely within the Brahmin accent as only the brahmins of that time were educated.
