My sweet friends, I am Urdu. Main Urdu hun. I am sure you have heard of me, and some of you may even speak to me in your day to day life, without ever noticing it.
I am such an integral part of life now, but the thing is when you became an integral yet mundane part of life people tend to forget about the things that are unique and beautiful about you.
People have a 'Galat Fahmi' or wrongly think that I am a foreign brought language not rooted in Indian languages. In fact I am rooted in the Indo Aryan language as well as Persian.

✨I am spoken by approximately 66 million native speakers.
✨I am a language spoken mainly in the north and north-western India.
✨I have more than 171 millions speakers worldwide.
✨Not only am I an official language to India but also to Pakistan, Bangladesh and Turkey as well.

Now I would like to shed some light on my history.
✨I have evolved from around the 6th century.
✨It was when the Hindus came in contact with the Muslims, during the Mughal era that I developed fully.
✨I was a way to communicate between Indo Aryan Hindi or Khadi Boli, and Persian language of the Afghani Mughals and the Turkish empire.
✨Around the 18th century I was known by many names to state a few: ' Handavi' 'Hindustani' 'Dehlavi' 'Lahori' and 'Lashkari'
✨By the end of Aurangzeb it had turned into a common language, between the citizens, known as 'Zaban-i-Ordo'

Now let's look at why I am regarded as a foreign language.
While I retained the grammar and core Indo Aryan vocabulary of the local Indian dialect Khariboli, it adopted the Nastaleeq writing system which was developed as a style of Persian calligraphy.
For those unaware Nastaleeq script is a Persian Calligraphy script taken from Arabic language.
There was a big debate regarding writing me in Devanagari Script so that I could be used as a medium of education.
People tend to misunderstand me thinking that I was born from a foreign language and discard me as not being a part of our culture, and sometimes blame me for the decline of other languages, like Khadri Boli and Sanskrit.
But how am I to blame, I was born as a way to communicate between two different cultures. I am the reason two beautiful cultures came together and took and gave to each other so many new values and new formed culture.
Today I am written in both the scripts. I am writing in Nastaleeq script and also in the Devanagari script.
Nowadays people have forgotten me or try to hyper-Persianise me. I like to be remembered. There was a time when I was taught in schools as a compulsory subject but today people do not even like to take me as an elective language.

✨خودا حفظ✨ Khuda Hafiz Goodbye literally it means 'may good look after you'
