I want to tell about me.I am a Dravidian language spoken in the Indian state of Kerala and the union territories of Lakshadweep and Pondicherry by the Malayali people. I am one of 22 scheduled languages of India spoken by nearly 2.88% of Indians. I am spoken by 34 million people worldwide.

Do you know how I got this name?
✨ MALAYALAM ✨
This word Malayalam originated from the words:
Mala, meaning "mountain",
Alam, meaning "region" or "-ship"
(as in "township")
It can be translated directly as "the mountain region." Originally my name was referred to the land of the Chera dynasty, and only later it became my name.

Are you wondering about where I came from? I'll tell you.
My origin still remains a matter of dispute among scholars. One of the most conservative ideas is that I originated from Sanskrit. Some scholars believe I was developed from ancient Prakrit.
A second view argues about the origin of me out of "Proto-Dravidian" or "Proto-Tamil-Malayalam" in the prehistoric era.
While some argue I am daughter of Tamil, there are others who contend I am daughter of Dravidian language and sister of Tamil.
Today, everybody is in unison to include me, along with Tamil, Kotha, Todak, Kodak, and Kannada as belonging to the Dakshina Dravidian family. It's true that I have close affinity with Tamil. It is because at one point in history I and Tamil had a common root. My evolution as an independent language is found in the records and proclamations of the 9th century. Probably in the course of four or five centuries I became an independent language.
