I wake up the next morning alone in the bed. Aro told me I would have him all day today, where is he? I start to get a bit scared. I get up and get dressed and ready quickly, I leave the room and Demetri is standing there.

"Good morning Amelia, master Aro sends his apologies, he had an emergency he needed to attend to."

"What's going on? Should I be worried?"

"Everything will be okay, no need to be worried. But Aro prefers that you stay in the room until the matter is dealt with." He says and I'm shocked.

"That doesn't sound like nothing! So I'm just supposed to sit up here? This definitely does have me worried." I think about trying to run to find Aro but I know Demetri would easily be able to stop me.

"Miss Amelia I am just following orders. You must stay in your room no matter what, I will stop you if needed." He says as he stands firm in front of me. I sigh and walk back into the room and flop onto the bed.

What am I supposed to do? How long will I be like this? These thoughts run through my head and then there is a knock on the door.

"Breakfast for Amelia!" I hear a maid yell and I let her in, she is a lot younger than the maids I usually see. She might even be my age. I decide it might be nice to talk to her.

"I haven't seen you here before, you new?" I ask and the girl looks at me and smiles.

"Yes, this was the only job in town I could get to provide for my family." I frown. I bet a lot of girls get this job trying to provide for their family but usually just end up getting killed.

"She needs to get back to her job, Amelia." Demetri says and I frown at him.

"Please Demetri can she just sit with me while I eat? I just want someone to talk to." I beg him and pout my lip.

"Fine, only for 10 minutes." He says and I smile at her. I close the door and she comes inside and I start eating.

"So, what's your name? I'm Amelia."

"Lucia, nice to meet you." She seems really shy and almost scared.

"How old are you if you don't mind me asking?"

"I just turned 18."

"Oh I turn 18 in less than a week! What a coincidence." I smile and continue eating.

"So, how much do you know about this job?" I ask remembering what Aro told me about some of the maids.

"I know that there is something not normal about the people in this castle, except for you." She answers hesitantly.

"You're right on that one. Do you have any intent on being like them? Or are you here simply for the money?"

"Just the money. This job requires me to be here 24/7 so a lot of money is going back home to my family."

"Woah. Do you ever get to go home?"

"The job says it lasts for up to a month and then I get to go home." I frown knowing that she probably won't actually get to go home. I start to feel really bad and am not even sure what to say.

"Well I look forward to seeing you around. It will be nice to have a girl my age around." I smile at her with a sickening feeling in my stomach.

"I think I will mostly be serving you, so I think I will see you again later." She looks happy with that statement. I'm glad to give her some hope even if she won't be alive much longer.

Demetri knocks on the door. "Time is up, she must go clean."

Lucia smiles and leaves the room and I feel really sad. This honestly isn't fair, but I know there really isn't anything I can do about it.
