Chapter 3

Burgess pov

Ronin found his mate. I cringe at the thought. He needs to be stopped by all means. Having Ronin on the council would show how powerless certain members actually were, I included. He cannot be successful. He's way too powerful. I along with a few others on the council want him destroyed.

I need to contact my henchman Jory and proceed with the plan the group of us decided on.

"Jory, hey it's Burgess, remember that issue we discussed, yeah that one. You have the celestial bonds I sent correct? Good it's time to proceed with the plan. He will be at outpost X19 how soon can you get there?"

"Two weeks possibly less if I go now," growled Jory.

"Perfect, I'll send a communication to Ronin, letting him know to expect a council representative," Burgess quips.

Shadow pov

Amy and Jacob took the news of me being Ronin's mate well, especially when I asked her and Jacob to take over the outpost.

"Are you sure, this has been your baby since forever," Amy stammers.

"I'm positive Amy," I smiled as I packed another box.

Ronin and I decided to live on his ship together before my rebirth. We will have to learn about each other in the limited time fate has given us.

"What if it doesn't work Shady?"

I stop what I'm doing and shake my head.

"Amy we are mates. Fate made us for each other, we are two people that are meant to be one," I grin smugly.

"Whatever Shady," groans Amy.

My nerves started to tingle, knowing Ronin was near, I went to open my door.

"Hello Ronin," I greeted with a grin.

"Well hello to you, my love." I warmed all over. Looking over to Amy wiggling her eyebrows, I snort and mouth stop.

My room, with three people in it, looked entirely too small. I stood next to Ronin, touching his side with my elbow so the tingles would stop.

"Amy this is Ronin, Ronin Amy."

Amy bowed like a simpleton. "Pleasure to make your acquaintance, highness."

Ronin smirks and turns towards me.

"Are these the boxes you want?"

I nodded as Ronin started lifting them.

"I'll be back in a moment," Ronin winked then disappeared.

"Whoa, are you going to be able to do that after your rebirth Shady?" I just shrugged my shoulders in bewilderment. Ronin popped back a few moments later and took the remaining boxes and poofed away again, grinning the entire time. He came again and scanned my room.

"Is that all?" I nodded and looked teary eyed at Amy. "I guess this is it." I pulled her into a hug. "Be sure to visit when you can, Shady," Amy mumbled between sobs.

"Of course I will." Ronin then embraced me and told me to close my eyes. I felt a woosh of air and my feet hit solid ground.

I open my eyes and look around. The first thing I notice is my boxes are empty and my things are carefully displayed around the stunning room.

"You did all this for me?"

Ronin pulls my back towards his chest and nods into my shoulder.

"This will be your private quarters on our ship." Already he's saying ours like we've been together forever. I get butterflies in my stomach once again. He's so sweet.

I look around at the large bed, a desk. Seating area and a doorway to an attached bathroom. All the colors are pleasing and I couldn't have asked for anything better.

"Would you like a tour?" I smile and nod.

He links my arm in his and heads to the hall.

"This is my suite here, next to yours," he winks. We continue down the hall to the lounge area.

"You've been here," he grins. We continue to a kitchen then upstairs to an observation deck. Large glass windows show the view of space. I pause as I scan the heavens.

"Beautiful like you," Ronin whispers. I blush lightly.

"Oh I received a message saying a representative from SBC would be arriving here in a few weeks to make sure we are truly mated and marked." My eyes look into his as I frown.

"Are they going to watch?" Ronin raises a brow and shakes his head.

"No Shadow, they check my mark afterwards, it's basic protocol. They need to be sure I won't fade." I relax at the information.

"So a couple days and then rebirther."

Ronin nods.

"Would you like to see my pod?"

"Yes I would."

"Come here then."

Ronin holds open his arms as I step into them.

"Close your eyes."

We appeared in a dark room, a low hum permeated the area meaning we were near the engine room. Ronin loosened his hold on me and snapped his fingers. Bright lights fill the room, shiney metal assaults my eyes. In the middle of a lab area sits a large chrome colored pod.

"Wow, that's an impressive piece of machinery Ronin." We walked hand in hand towards the pod. I took my free hand and ran it over the tempered glass cover. Ronin's pod was more updated than any I had used.

"Are you hungry Shadow." I gaze up to Ronin and shake my head.

"No, my nerves are too frazzled to eat, maybe tomorrow my appetite will be better. I'm tired though, it's late, I think I'd like to rest." I worry if I'm apart from Ronin my nerves will keep giving me pain, but I'm drained and tired and need to recharge

Ronin nods in understanding.

"Come," he whispers. I go to his embrace and we're transported to my room.

"Wait here for a moment." I nod as he disappears. He pops back with one of his long t-shirts.

"Wear this to bed, it has my scent and it will help with the separation." I take it and nod, "Thanks." He steps closer, placing his hand on both sides of my face. I look up as he bends over and places a warm kiss on my forehead. He then whispers strange words into my ear. The language is lyrical and foreign to me. My soul calms completely and I visibly relax.

"What was that?"

Ronin smiles, his eyes sparkle.

"I told your soul that I am near and that your half and mine will soon be united once again. It will ease the pain you've been experiencing."

I frown a bit.

"Why didn't you do that earlier?"

"Because I like touching you," he merrily states while bopping the tip of my nose with a finger.

I laugh, shaking my head then thank him while heading to the bathroom to change. I pause at the entrance and gaze back. "Goodnight Ronin and thanks for everything."

Ronin nods and heads to the far wall, holding his hand up an invisible door slides open. Before he enters he looks back at me.

"I'm more thankful for you, my love. More than you'll ever comprehend, sleep well." He smiles and leaves. I stand there looking at the blank space. My soul is calm and my nerves as well. I go to the bathroom, do my business and change into Ronin's t-shirt. The material falls mid thigh and feels delicate against my skin. I lift it to my nose, it smells like him. I smile and head for the bed.

I sink into the most comfortable material in the cosmos. It's like sleeping on a cloud. My eyes close and my breathing slows as I fall into a deep comfortable slumber.
