Alex P.O.V
I was too sweaty from the work out, wanting to leave a good impression I had to go and quickly shower but Shawn decided to just leave me alone. "Hey..." I itched the back of my neck feeling super embarrassed 'this is embarrassing' I heard myself say, I was supposed to think that not say, ugh. "Anyway can you come to my room? I need to shower". "Yes of course" she said, smiling, making me relived, I wanted to impress her, it was in my nature to impress people, from the way I dressed, talked, act, everything. My father would always say, "The way you carry yourself it's the same way people will see you. In this business you need to work hard to impress people, they hold the power. Remember".
I led the way to my room, it was on the second floor, furthest from everyone. I asked to be moved to this room, the further the better. "Wow your room is so far away" Rey was breathing heavy, stopping and trying to catch her breath, she was really tired from all this walking, making me laugh at her. She looked up, glaring at me, looking at her cute expression I started to laugh even more. "Here we are" I said, opening the door, letting the girl in. "Why is this room so far away!" She whined as she sat on my bed. "Well couple of years back I had troubles sleeping so i asked to be moved here" I awkwardly laughed, hurriedly walking towards my wardrobe to that clothes. I told her the truth, well the truth without details, few years ago I went undercover, one of the many ones I have done so far, when I came back, I had nightmares from the horror I saw out there, waking up screaming, not wanting to do harm to other cadets so I asked to be moved.
I quickly showered, not wanting to leave her bored for too long. I walked inside the room, finding Rey's back facing me, looking at an art piece I had on my desk, it was a small canvas drawing my old partner did for me. It was a painting of a uniform, a small pride flag pinned on the collar of the jacket. As we are not allowed to wear any accessories on our uniforms. He wanted for me to always remember where I came from, to remain me that the uniform doesn't define who I love.
"It's beautiful" she smiled as she looked back at me, her eyes ran down my body, slowly climbing back to my face, she let a smile consume her face once more "Just like you".
I turned around not wanting for her to see the small blush daring to come on my face. "It was a gift from my old partner" I quickly changed the topic, lifting the small canvas off of the desk "He gave it to me right after we parted ways" a sad smile spread on my face, feeling of nostalgia settling in my heart "What happened to him?" Rey's voice brought me back into reality"He found a reason to live"
I smiled at her, putting the canvas back on the desk I walked towards the door "Shell we?" I asked as I opened the door, giving her a small bow making her chuckle
Rey P.O.V
We were walking towards the exist, where Shawn and Kate would be waiting for us, I was walking slightly before Alex, none of us talking as we let the silence to take over us. I wanted to ask so much about her yet I couldn't find the courage to speak a word. "How's the life as a military child?" She asked letting a small chuckle, I turned slightly towards her seeing awkwardness spread on her face, her ears being redder than the moon on lunar eclipse. "It was though growing up, we never stayed in one place for too long so I never made any friends but for the past four years we have been living here" I stopped as I quickly swallowed, choking on my words I I couldn't bring myself to say all this will end in less than few months "But every nice thing has to come to an end" a bitter smile planted itself in my face.
"Eh I don't believe in that everything happens for a reason" I gave Alex a sad smile, bring my head down I didn't want to face her, I knew what she said was true but it couldn't stop my heart from breaking. "How about you? How did you even become a solider?" Changing the topic I quickly smiled at her, forcing my usual smile to take over my face
"Well I was actually born in the military. My whole family is part of the military in one way or another" her smile held a certain pride, making her face lit up "Yeah but don't you have to be over 18? If I am not wrong you are still 17" I was confused how can she be the leader yet she is only 17 "As I said I was born in the military my biological father was some kind of commander so my biological mother left me in front of the base he worked in" I felt sympathy for her, I can't imagine how hard is to grow up without parents, not being loved enough by them to be kept, I looked down not wanting tears to spill down my face
"This young couple back than my father was a simple soldier and my mum worked as a clerk they took me in so I grew up in the base basically I was always there even tho the general didn't like that one bit" she let this light hearted chuckle making me chuckle as well, "I always trained with the cadets so I was very good" she stopped, her eyes darkened, I could feel she was angry, her body was trembling from anger "When I was a child they needed someone who was able enough and was a child that's when I came in play. Ever since than I have been part of the military's world" she smiled, no emotion behind it, a simple smile.
I was stunned, I didn't know how to react, what to say. "I am sorry" suddenly I blurted out, not knowing what I am apologising for but I felt the need to do so. She smiled not answering anything, her eyes held nothing, no emotion, nothing, they were just like dark voids hiding their story.
