the fourth day we crossed paths was just incredibly cute.

"what can i get for you, princess?"

i smiled.

fleur was serving a mother and her young daughter. the daughter was dressed in a fluffy green princess dress and a small tiara on her head.

fleur had made the small girl a vanilla milkshake, topped with rainbow sprinkles along side the biggest brownie they had in the bakery. the little princess thanked fleur and ran off to her mother.

"cute"

i hummed in agreement.

"i love children"

the girl sighed and continued to make my coffee (despite me not ordering yet). i furrowed my eyebrows.

"do you not have any of your own?"

i almost immediately regretted the words, worried i could offend her. but she smiled nonetheless. it wasn't a proper smile like the one on her face when she talked to the little princess; this one didn't reach her eyes.

"no. my boyfriend doesn't like kids"

ouch.
