Reiko's POV
I shove the body below me hard against the ground, my sparring partner's arm twisted behind her back at an unnatural angle. With her cheek planted against the ground, she growls and pants as she shakes with frustration. I pull myself off of her, my sweat flying off like bullets with my movement. She was really persistent and went down with a big fight.
I hold my hand out to her and pull her up. "Good fight. You're all dismissed." I declare and watched as mostly everyone drops to the ground in exhaustion. We've been doing this for five hours now and everyone including myself was anticipating this training session to end.
Once everyone's gone, I grab my discarded clothes and dress quickly. I make my way inside the pack house and greet the pack members before going to my individual room and packing all of my belongings.
Before I leave for home, I climb to the third level and knock on Alpha's office door. "Come in." He announces before I open the door and let myself in.
Alpha Montez was slumped in his chair, a hand in his tousled hair. His eyes were sunken because of his lack of sleep, dark circles around them. His skin looked pale and he looked sick to the bone. The usual strong Alpha was depressed and as much as he wanted to hide it, we all knew he was.
Years without a mate can do this to you. He lost his mate five years ago. Our pregnant Luna was strolling in the streets with her sister when she got assaulted. The thief pushed her and she fell on her stomach...or that's what they told us. I'm sure everyone knows that it's not true seeing as after Luna was buried, our Alpha went on a rogue hunt and killed dozens of rogues. They're hiding the truth from us, but we know. I'm surprised Alpha Montez has lasted this long if I am being honest. I'm not trying to question his strength, it's just that he tries to be strong when he can't. He's turning 28 in a year and we don't know what his plans are.
"Stop those thoughts." He mumbles in a whispered voice.
"I apologize, Alpha."
"No need. Now I asked you to skip classes today, something I don't ever do," He looks expectantly at me.
"Yes, Alpha."
"Now to the issue on hand. I know you have everything under control in the next town over and your warriors are always on patrol, but I'm sending a couple of more warriors alongside my third in command." He states as he leans back.
"My warriors are capable of keeping that half of the territory safe. I don't think there's a need for more warriors," I stop when he shoots me a glare. I bow my head showing my submission. Wouldn't want to get into a fight with an Alpha. That would be bloody.
"There is a need. Rogues have been appearing more frequently because they know that the Alpha is not present in that town. The rogues won't stop unless they know that pack members are protecting the place. If they continue appearing, I assure you I will personally go there and wipe them out myself." He says with a calm tone.
I nod and am quickly dismissed. I sigh and walk out of his office. Well, this was kind of pointless. He could have told me that after school ended, but that's alright. I got the opportunity to train a lot longer than I usually do.
"Reiko! Reiko!" I stop in my tracks and turn to the voice.
Mrs. Peters pops out of her suite door and waves me over. I slowly walk over with furrowed eyebrows and smile slowly when I see her daughter in her arms. She's a beautiful baby with green eyes and patchy strawberry hair.
"Reiko, can you please pick up the twins? I woke up super late today to find the living room a war zone! These boys made the place into a mess and didn't even pick up after themselves. And Memy here wouldn't stop asking for my attention! I still have to make their food and change Memy unto her clothes and I'm running late-'' She blinks quickly as she rambles on and on with little Memy chewing on her hand while staring at her.
