It was 3 days before the invasion. The gang had been hiding in the fire nation for weeks now and it was finally time to try and end the war. Katara had secretly been sneaking out and lurking around the fire nation to try and see if she could find Zuko. Not to talk to him of course, she was still awfully angry, but to see how he was doing and what he has been up to.

She never saw him around though, it made her sad, but she thought it was for the best. Maybe it was a sign from the universe that the friendship wasn't meant to be. She still wanted to find him though.

One day when Toph, Sokka, and Aang were out scamming people. Katara convinced them that she would stay and cook dinner and do some laundry. She secretly went out to go find Zuko. This time she saw him on the palanquin on his way to Mai's... he was smiling, but it was fake. She leaned in for a kiss and you could just tell he was forcing himself to try and love her the way Mai loved him.

Katara ran away in shock. She didn't like it, but she made herself think it was nothing. She was sad. Heartbroken that Zuko was with some other girl. A girl that wasn't her. Katara didn't know what she was feeling. She just assumed it was nothing but anger that he acted like everything was normal when everyone knew it wasn't.

Later that night when the gang was asleep, Katara just couldn't stop thinking about the way he looked when he kissed her.

"How could he just be with her, like what happened with all of us was nothing?!" Katara said in her head
...
"I mean like how could he just- just- forget what happened it Ba Sing Se!!!" She angrily said to herself

Katara got up and walked into town. She was angry, the only thing she could think about was just screaming at Zuko and hoping he would be good! At least as good as he was in the catacombs... Katara stopped searching and realized it was a bad idea. Katara ended up sitting on the fountain and cried, cried until she could finally stop, breathe, and ask herself why she felt this way when he was clearly the enemy.
