"So you didn't wear those heels today?" Chan asked, amused, as Aisha climbed out of her taxi. They had decided to meet at the venue thirty minutes before the exhibition commenced. As soon as the news of an exhibition of Bang Chan's girlfriend's paintings broke out, the media went nuts. So they had to appear before the paparazzi did.
"I didn't want to appear overly tall," she smirked, "Then you'd look like a small baby next to me."
"Yeah yeah, whatever," he brushed it off, making her giggle.
"We're finally here..." she breathed in and out, and Chan intertwined his fingers with hers, smilingly saying, "Get ready for the most important day in your life."
"I'm not ready," she honestly spoke.
"No one is, but behind that door lies the moment you've been waiting for," he tightened his grip on her hand. She nodded, inhaling and exhaling once more, squeezing his hand and walking inside.
And inside the art gallery, being welcomed by the staff, she witnessed her paintings hung up on the walls along with other artists' works. Beside her paintings was her name displayed in bold: Heo Aisha.
"Oh, my..." she covered her mouth with her hands, a tear sliding down her face upon looking at the view before her.
In those moments, all her hardships flashed before her eyes – her parents degrading her when she painted, her decision to run away to pursue her dreams, her inner turmoil, and those rejection letters. And suddenly, every one of those hardships seemed worthwhile when she saw her name proudly displayed on the wall.
Aisha didn't even realize that she had started shedding tears when Chan wrapped his arms around her figure and pulled her close, burying her face in his shoulders. He soothingly rubbed her back, letting her sob and wet his shirt.
It took her a minute to compose herself, and when she parted, he said, "Don't cry on your big day – our big day. This day deserves your most cheerful smile! Smile for me, won't you?"
"I will," she grinned, wiping the tears off her face with a tissue.
That's when they heard noises from outside the gallery. They looked through the window to see the media as well as the public collecting at the gate.
"It's time," she timidly spoke.
"It's time."
Fast forward to a few more minutes, Aisha found herself posing beside her paintings for the photographers to click her pictures. Soon, Chan joined her, and as the fangirls – who had visited the art gallery for Chan and Aisha – squealed, she couldn't help but laugh out loud at them.
"She's so pretty up close!" she heard one of the fangirls talking to another.
"Yeah! Channie's choice is amazing!"
"I wish I was dating him, but I'm happy that our Channie's happy."
Aisha chuckled, and as soon as the photoshoot was done, she saw many STAYs come up to them for pictures and autographs. Well, it was mostly the girls flattened out over Chan, but Aisha didn't mind. After all, they were his babygirls before she came in.
Other artists in the gallery gave her envious looks, she gulped, averting her eyes to look at Chan, who had just finished clicking pictures with his fans.
"Excuse me?" she heard a lady call out for her from behind, and she turned around to see Kim Ha Eun, the director of another popular art gallery.
"Oh, good morning!" Aisha bowed before her, and she bowed back.
"I've seen your collection. They are beautiful! I'm really impressed," Ha Eun spoke.
"Really? That means a lot, ma'am!" she replied.
"Oh, please don't be so formal! I just wanted to invite you to an exhibition taking place at my art gallery. I'd be honored if we could display some of your work," Ha Eun cheerfully said.
"O-Of course!" Aisha spoke, not believing her ears, as the lady drew out a business card from her purse.
"Thank you, have a lovely day!" she gladly walked off, and as soon as she was out of sight, Aisha squealed, turning around to hug Chan, who laughingly embraced her back.
---
Hours later, the exhibition was over, and it was three in the noon, so Chan took Aisha out to a diner to treat her.
"But I should be the one treating you! It's only fair that way!" she protested.
"I have a surprise for you," he winked at her, and she blushingly spoke, "Yeah, fine."
"Always so cute," he cooed over her, and by that time, they realized that they had reached the diner. Chan slid his face mask down and asked the receptionist for the table he had booked. As a waiter led them to a table at a far off corner, she questioned, "You even booked a table?"
"Yes, babygirl."
And walking towards the table, she saw someone she knew all too well. She almost stopped breathing and looked at Chan, who only smiled at her apologetically.
"Aisha, meet your parents after a long time."
Next chapter:
And as the two hugged, Aisha looked at Chan, who was looking proudly at them, and she mouthed to him,
"Thank you."
