There were a lot of moments in life that Tori wished she listened to her mother more. Like when she looked in the mirror and the large sun spots on her skin made her regret not wearing sun cream more often. When she laid awake in her bunk for hours after drinking a large coffee too late, or during the solitude of traveling when she regretted not spending more time with her family when she had the chance. But the one piece of advice that, in this moment, Tori wished she listened to more than anything, was to be careful how openly she wore her heart on her sleeve. For as long as she could remember, giving and showing love was the most important thing to her. Whether it was making sure her loved ones knew just how much they meant, taking care of and nurturing the animals in her life, and even showing strangers kindness on the street, Tori's heart was embroidered on her sleeve. How openly she felt her emotions and showed the world her feelings was like a bright neon sign on her person. And now that she spent her day to day life in the spotlight, it made it easy for everyone to know who to target. Not listening to her mum, when she sat her daughter down in the kitchen just before starting her journey on X Factor, and told Tori to be protective of her heart, could now be classified as one of the pop star's biggest regrets.
It wasn't that she regretted giving her heart to Harry. Loving him would always be one of the best things that ever happened to her, but Tori did regret how blindly she went into the relationship. It couldn't be like every other relationship in the world, because they weren't every other couple. They would never be able to have a private stroll through the park, a nice dinner without interruptions, or a life without worry about tabloids, and it hadn't hit the girl until that night just how hard that was going to be. How much of a strain being two wildly public figures, who would sometimes have to do things they didn't like but had to appease others, would put on the relationship.
And sitting on the bed in Jeff's spare room, silence surrounding her, made Tori's regrets increase tenfold. Why didn't he follow her back? Was this one argument the end of their ten month relationship? Did she overreact to the entire situation? That last thought brought her back down to Earth. Tori's emotions were perfectly valid and she would never apologize for how she was feeling, but why did she feel so confused? Still sitting on the bed, T must have zoned out, deep in thought, because the next thing she knew, Harry was standing in front of her. Directly across from the foot of the bed was an oak dresser, which he was cautiously leaning against. His fingers were grasping onto his lower lip like his life depended on it while his right hand just hung idly by his side, hair flying every which way like he had been pulling at it for hours, and a wild look in his eyes. It was a look similar to the one his girlfriend had see just as he runs off stage, like all the adrenaline in the world was flowing through his veins and about ready to make his head explode.
The stare that was held between the two felt thick, like all the unsaid words were strung in the air between their two bodies, waiting to be broken through. Only the heavy rise and fall of two pain filled chests could be heard in the still empty Azoff home, until Harry opened his mouth.
"Was afraid you wouldn't be here."
"Yeah, 'cause I have so many options here in LA." Tori chuckled, getting up off the end of the mattress so she could start getting ready for bed, "Maybe I'll just call up my fake boyfriend, sleep in his bed tonight."
"Jesus. I'm sorry, okay?" pushing off the dresser, he lifted both hands to run through his hair, just adding to the already greasy mess.
"No, not okay, Harry! None of this is okay!" prepping for bed was long forgotten now, and Tori's sole focus was on getting her boyfriend to understand why this situation was so wrong.
"I wanted to tell you when the job started. More than anything, I did!"
"The job? You mean when you started dating Kendall?"
