Eren's POV

The strategy meeting concluded, and as I moved toward the preparations, I passed through a sea of faces etched with dread. Some were pale and trembling, others stooped over, losing their composure at the thought of the Titans. I was about to lose myself in the preparations when a loud crash echoed through the corridor.

"Get outta my way!" Jean stormed forward, his frustration palpable. I reached out, grabbing him by the collar before he could push past.

"Jean, what's going on?" I demanded, trying to make sense of his agitation.

Jean's eyes burned with defiance. "You plan to throw yourself into the Legion and embrace death? I was meant for the interior squad!" His voice was tinged with desperation.

Fury surged through me. I shoved him back against the wall, my grip tight on his collar. "Don't forget the training we endured! We could have died—some did! Others were driven out, or quit. But we survived, damn it! Don't forget that, Jean!" My voice was a roar, echoing off the walls.

Around us, the tension seemed to ease a bit as others listened, though my own fear gnawed at me. This was just the beginning of the fight against the Titans. I couldn't afford to falter.

The world outside was a tense hush, but it broke when Y/N appeared, their worried expression catching me off guard. Before I could react, Y/N enveloped me in a tight hug. The warmth of the embrace made my cheeks flush red. I wrapped my arms around them, savoring the moment. This might be the last time I see those captivating E/C eyes.

I squeezed their slender frame, my heart aching at the thought of leaving them behind. "E-Eren, promise me you'll come back. I don't want to lose you. You're the last person I could bear to see go." Their voice trembled, adding weight to their plea.

"I promise," I replied, pulling Y/N closer, sharing our body heat. As we held each other, the words I had wanted to say for so long slipped out almost involuntarily.

"Ich liebe dich..."

"Ich liebe dich? What does that mean?" Y/N asked, curiosity laced with confusion.

Not wanting to reveal too much, I answered, "I'll explain when I return. Just hold onto that thought until then." I offered a reassuring smile, though Y/N couldn't see the deep blush accompanying it.

"Hmm... I guess I'll have to wait. See you when you get back."

"Yeah, see you when we both return."

Just as we were about to lose ourselves in our moment, a familiar face from the garrison regiment approached us.

"L/N Y/N, you're being reassigned to the rear guard with the garrison elite unit!"

"But with my skills, I'll only be a hindrance!" Y/N protested, their embarrassment evident.

I gently nudged Y/N's forehead, causing them to wince in pain. "Idiot, mankind is on the brink of extinction. You can't complain now." I patted their head affectionately.

"Sayonara, Y/N."

As Y/N moved to join their new post, I felt a pang of worry mixed with pride. Our fight was far from over, and we would face it together, no matter the cost.
