Bang. Bang. Bang.
I grinned to myself before swinging the door open, feeling weirdly giddy as I put on the expression that possibly implied faux annoyance.
"Kong for the millionth time, I'm not letting you spend the night no matter what you use to bribe..."
"You turned their son gay?"
I sucked in a quick breath at the sound of the annoyingly familiar voice. Cursing quietly as I felt my up until this moment demonstrably perfect day go up in flames. I must have slaughtered some serious amount of kittens in my past life to never ever get rid of this ridiculous problem once and for all. How much longer do I need to run?
"Why are you here again? Don't you have any other poor souls to torture that you keep haunting my door?"
"Why were you at their party again? What were you even doing with that boy."
"Have you gone deaf, mother? I just asked you something. What the fuck are you doing here?"
"You always had the dirtiest mouth didn't you?"
"Learnt from the best of course. Now are you planning to answer my question?"
"How close are you to the Shutilucks?"
"And why do you think I plan on discussing that with you?"
"Close enough to ask for favors?"
I literally felt myself cringe at her words. Knowing way too well where this conversation was heading.
"For fucks sake, mother, even if I was their favorite person on earth, there is no way I would be asking for any favors from them. Especially for you. But thankfully, it turns out I am not that close. So need to even discuss this anymore."
"You don't understand..."
"Actually I understand perfectly well. You never did had a problem strutting your handicapped son for sympathy points whenever it was beneficial for you, did you? Turns out I am not a little idiot anymore. Now if this was all then I need to go forget I share DNA with snakes."
Unfortunately, she was well aware of my movements, and even better acquainted with my weaknesses having exploited them for decades, cause before I could slam the door on the face that totally deserved it, I felt her slip past me to enter the apartment. Why do I get the feeling by the time this disaster was over only one of us would come out of this experience alive?
I felt her walking around my living room, Chocolate noticably unhappy at the stranger invading our personal space, judging the life I had manage to put together once Sol and I finally got out of their clutches.
"This is a really nice apartment."
When will this torture be over?
"Seems expensive."
Have I mentioned how much I hate her?
"Must cost a fortune every month."
Is this normal conversation one has with their mother?
"I assume the book business pays really well huh?"
How much do you want to bet the woman literally has no idea what I really do?
"And yet your father and I haven't seen even a penny of it after having put up with you for years."
"Oh? I can search for some change in the corners of my couch if you really want. Or would you prefer a check for the pennies?"
