I woke up with a start when I felt the chill of the morning breeze hit my body as I instantly sat up in the unfamiliar bed to feel around the cold, empty space next to me. My flustering stopping only when I caught sight of Arthit seated on the armchair by the window.
Nursing a large cup of coffee between his palms, he was simply sitting there, staring out straight into the sun, as the warm rays bathed him in an ethereal glow.
I don't how long had he been sitting there but as he heard all my rustling and turned towards me, the intensity of his dark circles making it rather obvious just how much sleep he had gotten last night. Whatever was on his mind, whatever happened last night, troublesome enough that it had kept him awake.
And yet, he managed to smile at me in that calm, serene manner that always makes my heart skip a beat.
"Awake?"
"Yea...yeah."
"Slept ok?"
"Yeah."
"Good. That's good. There is fresh coffee if you want."
"Ummm... thanks."
Turning around he went back to staring out the window. Almost as if he was ignoring me, like I wasn't even in the room, before letting out a soft sigh. Head still averted, his voice almost a whisper.
"Are you free today? I was thinking of taking you out on a date."
"Huh?"
Wait, what did he just say?
He wanted to take me for a date?
That had like ...never happened. I was always the one who was pestered him with ideas and had to drag him practically kicking and screaming to just leave his house. And now he wanted to voluntarily go out on a date? His expressions looking blank and unreadable as I tried to understand how a man went from being inexplicably distraught to pretending to be perfectly normal. My frown intensifying as I kept staring at his stiff body.
"I was wondering if you were free to spend the day with me."
Why don't I trust the meaning behind his words are as simple as they appear?
But I would much rather figure out what he was up to by being stuck next to him rather than fretting about it from afar.
"Yeah. Yeah I'm free. Where do you want to go?"
But instead of actually telling me he simply got out of the chair and headed towards the bathroom for his shower, leaving a cryptic hint behind.
"You will find out."
Watching the bathroom door shut I felt the anxiety rise up within my chest. Every time Arthit acts so out of the character I automatically start feeling nervous. And soon enough I knew exactly why.
"A movie? You want to sit through a movie?!"
Gaping stupidly at the theatre in front of us, my shocked brain could barely wrap around the concept that Arthit actually wanted to go 'watch' a movie. At 10 freaking am in the morning. Pretty sure we were the only fools waiting for the ticket counter to even open.
"You mentioned last week that this movie looked interesting, so I thought maybe we could sit through it together."
"But this movie doesn't have audio description. Plus most of the run time is supposed to be nothing but dumb loud action scenes with literally no story. Are you really sure this is the movie you want to spend your morning with?"
"This is the movie you were talking about right?"
"Yeah, but..."
"Then c'mon."
