Why do we look at the stars?

The starts,
balls of gas thousands of miles away,
but yet
we all look up and search for their presence.
We look at them in awe,
with questions we will never know answers to,
searching for something we may never find.
They are filled with promise and hope,
chances that we might take,
lives that we might live,
dreams we might follow.
All our lives lived out
under them,
watching from a far,
untouchable and unreachable.
Still their presence provides comfort
In an unstable and uncontrollable world,
A commonality between everyone,
Something we all share.
A beauty visible at night,
Splatters of paint across a dark sky,
Art work forever present
throughout our lives.
