It hurt my heart more than I'd like to admit when Kohen just walked out of the dining room. Out of everyone, I thought he would have been a tad bit more welcoming but I guess not. No big deal though.
No big deal.
I put food onto a paper plate and go to sit down at the table but my mom shoos me away, "Nope, you're sitting with everyone else."
I frown but she pushes me into the living room before I can get a word out.
Looking at the people in the living room I almost stop breathing. They are all looking at me, some glaring some not. I shuffle over to a corner spot in the living room and slide down the wall.
Every one watched my every move like I am a criminal. I plaster on a smile then take a bite of my food but keep my eyes down.
The atmosphere is so tense you could cut it with a knife.
No one talks, they just eat their food in silence and I know if I wasn't here things wouldn't be like this.
Talking would make things worse so I just keep quiet trying to make as little noise as possible.
Then someone finally says something, "How was your trip."
A Trip, seriously that's what they are calling it? I swallow my bite of food and say, "Good."
Then what I have been waiting for since I found out I was coming back. Kohen asks, "Just good? That's all you're going to say, good?"
I nod, "Yeah."
Kohen scoffs.
There's nothing else to say, it was good. I can't easily explain the reason I did things the way I did. No one chose to believe me the first time. Why would they now?
"Well, that's bullsit. Tell us about your trip. I'm curious, I've never been to Chicago. How was dear old dad, actually I know how he was. Mom said he kicked you out. Make any new friends? Probably not. Honestly, did you think you could just come back and think things would go back to normal? Do you think that we would even want you back? You are more clueless than I thought." Kohen rants.
Last time I was in a fit of rage I crashed a car. I crashed a fucking car. All I saw was red.
Now all I see is red. Calmly I stand up, to get out of the living room you have to pass the couch. I walk past the couch but stop to dump my pasta on Kohen. He yells and Celia screeches, "You bitch."
Then I do the thing I'm best at. I run out of the house, grabbing Donny's duffle bag I left by the door as I do.
