Chapter 14

Continued from last chapter

Harry turned towards Louis who was already crying.

"Hey." He grabbed Louis' hand. "Babe please I'm fine okay. It's not your fault, you weren't even awake. It wouldn't be the first time alright. I'm fine honestly."

"But now you can't be discharged. Are you even supposed to be in here right now?" He wiped his cheek, squeezing Harry's hand.

"Technically no, but forget about that. And the discharge, who cares. I get to be here with you longer. Honestly I don't really want to leave without you." Harry, now standing, kissed Louis on the lips, leaving him with a soft smile.

"Okay." Harry sat back down as they sat in silence before they both spoke up at once, at the same time.

"So-"

"About-"

"You go first. I wanna hear what you have to say." Harry waited for Louis to talk, eager to hear what he had to say.

"I know I told you that I could hear everything while I was in the coma, but we haven't talked about what I heard when you came in." Louis sighed before continuing. "I'm sure you've already know what I'm going to say, but I'll say it anyway. You were planning on proposing that night?"

Harry sat, fidgeting at his fingers, realizing that Louis questioned it, not just said it.

"Yeah I was."

"When did you know you were going to do it?"

"I've had the ring for weeks prior. I kept in the bathroom cabinet. You never go in there so it was the perfect spot." Harry chuckled a little. "Niall was in on it too. He set up the dinner reservations and took the ring for me. It was going to be during dessert. You've said in the past that you wanted a unique proposal, so I was gonna give that to you. And then you know, this mess happened."

"Harry, that sounds amazing. Do you have the ring?"

"Yeah it's in my room, but that's not why I told you about it." He didn't know how to tell him. "The reason I told you about the proposal was because of our argument. When we fought that day, I didn't think about coming out for a while, because I wanted to do it after we got married. And I didn't want to ruin the surprise. I'm sorry."

"No Harry, I'm sorry. That fight was stupid and honestly I thought about it and keeping it secret is kind of nice sometimes." He kissed Harry's hand. "But coming out after getting married is nice too. But forget about that. Can you get the ring?"

Harry seemed surprised, but called to Niall, who was in the hallway.

"Something wrong?"

"Can you grab the ring from my room please?" He winked at Niall and gave him a small smirk, as Niall nodded and left.

He returned a few minutes later, handing the ring to Harry, giving a smile and nod to Louis.

"It's not actually an engagement ring, but a promise ring. I was gonna promise myself to you, but then get married with the ring. I thought it would be sweet." He opened the box and started to place the ring on Louis' hand when pulled away.

"Woah hold on. One, you didn't even ask me. And two, I have something for you too." Louis pulled out the black box that was tucked under his covers.

"Wait, you have one too? For me?"

"Yes for you dingdong. Now-"

"When did you get it?" He cut Louis off, which resulted in Louis giving a sad look at Harry. "Sorry. Now I'm just curious."

"I got a few days before the crash. I wasn't too sure how, but I was going to promise myself to you. Guess we both had the same idea. You want to go first?"

"Oh we are going to do it right now? While we are both in our hospital gowns in a hospital?"

"Clearly the universe had other plans and didn't want us to make a big deal out of it, so yes. Right here, right now." Louis opened his box. "I'll go first then."

He took Harry's hand and started to place the ring on when he said, "I promise, that until we are united in marriage, this ring is a testament to our love and commitment to this relationship through hardships, forever." He placed the ring and kissed it, signifying his love for Harry.

Harry's cheeks flushed with red, as it was his turn. He took out his ring and began to place it on Louis' finger.

"Haven't really rehearsed what I was going to say, but here it goes. I promise that until we are united in marriage, I'm committed to you, through the ups and downs and lefts and rights. You complete me." Harry placed the ring and brought Louis in for a kiss. Niall came in and ruined the moment.

"OMG guys that was adorable. Congrats!" He hugged both of them, before getting a slap on the arm from Harry.

"Dude you could have waited like two more seconds before we were done. But thanks though"

"Yeah thanks Niall. Also thanks for making our dinner reservations, even though they never happened."

"Of course. Anything for my best friends. You guys are so cute, how could I resist."

Harry laid in the bed with Louis, almost off the edge, as Louis' cast took up most of the room. But Harry doesn't mind. He was promised to his best friend now and he just wanted to be out of the hospital with Louis, in order to truly begin their life.
