Saturday at Noon
Louis began to pack up his things on the bed, as Harry packed the rest of his clothes and stuff. Louis was being discharged today. Once the physical therapist cleared him, he was all good to go.
Louis was nervous to be home for the first time, but it didn't really show. On the other hand, Harry was very nervous about many different things.
"Are you sure you're ready to go home? I don't want-"
"Harry for the last time. Yes! I've been ready to go home for the entire time that I have been here. Can you please just finish packing so that we can actually go home?" Louis interrupted him with a loud sigh before giving him that speech. He didn't want to have to stay longer than he needed to.
Harry was silent, but did as he was told, zipping the bag up with the last of his and Louis' things all packed up inside.
Then just on time, Mitch, the doctor, and Sarah all walked in.
"Okay Louis, todays the day! All your pre-discharge exams and tests look good. Once Mitch clears you, which I'm sure you'll be fine, then you can leave. Sarah will prepare the paperwork you have to fill out.She is going to take out your IV and remove you from the monitor and you should be all set. I'll see you at your appointments later on next week. It was nice to meet you both" The doctor left, leaving Mitch and Sarah.
"Louis, like I told you yesterday, you have done very well. How is your leg feeling today? Have you walked today?" Mitch came closer, examining his leg.
"Yes, almost every hour on the dot. It feels much better than it did
yesterday. I'm still nervous to put full pressure, but I'm putting a little bit"
"That's perfectly fine. Like I said, it takes time, weeks sometimes. I wouldn't worry unless it's been like a month and you still aren't walking. So I'm going to clear you. The only thing I ask is do you have stairs in your house? Like in order to get to the bathroom or your bedroom?"
"Yea, my bedroom is upstairs."
"Okay, so I'm going to show you how to use your crutches properly on the stairs without falling, while Sarah has Harry fill out some paperwork in order for you to leave." Mitch took Louis into the hallway, while Sarah continued to stay and talked to Harry.
"Just some simple paperwork for you to fill out Harry. It's hospital policy. I'm going to pack up all his medical supplies that he'll need at home." Sarah left the room before coming back with quite a few things in her hands. "I'll explain everything when Louis gets back."
Harry finished the paperwork just as Louis came back, unable to sit on the bed because of all the stuff.
"Oh sorry Louis. This is just the stuff you need to take home in order to clean your incision sites and medications for pain and antibiotics, and all the other stuff you have to worry about. The only thing I need to tell you is to take the pain meds only if you need. They are narcotics, so they can be very addictive. I recommend taking the higher dose ibuprofen or paracetamol in its place if you have pain. The narcotic pain meds are only if it gets really bad. Okay?"
"Okay. Thanks Sarah, for everything. It really means a lot. You helped us through our worst, so I thank you again." Louis gave Sarah a big hug, as did Harry and they left the room, heading down the hall and out the hospital. They were going home.
The car ride home was quiet, Louis was mostly shuffling around trying to find a comfortable position. By the time he did, they were home. Niall and Liam were waiting outside their flat, both with things in their hands that were yet to be named.
"Welcome home Louis!" They ran up to him, placing the mysterious items on the front steps. Louis was still getting used to the crutches and the brace, but he actually looked really good considering.
"Thanks guys, but can we take this inside before I fall." He brushed past them, taking every step with care. He made his way inside to the kitchen, taking a seat at the kitchen island.
Niall placed some food on the counter, followed by Liam who had a whole ass cake that said "Welcome home, Louis!". The gestures were very nice, as they didn't need to do that.
"Since you guys don't have much food in here, we bought you some. Just make sure you get to the store soon, as I can't continue buying like this." Niall chuckled, opening the food, before Harry stopped him.
"We appreciate the gesture Niall, but we aren't very hungry. We had lunch at the hospital before we left. We can save this for later." Harry picked up the food and placed it in the refrigerator. He made his way to Louis, who had his head down on the counter. "Tired?"
"A little. Still don't have that much energy and that was a lot of walking." The lads gave him a bit of a weird look. "For me anyways."
They laughed as they made their way to the living room. They all picked out a movie and began to watch it, laughing and talking most of the way through. They then noticed that Louis had fallen asleep, so they turned the TV off, leaving Louis to sleep as they all slipped back into the kitchen.
"Okay, so I need your guys' help." He placed his hands on the counter. "So as you guys know, I was supposed to propose that night, so now I want to make it special. I-"
"But didn't you guys exchange promise rings or something like that. I only heard what Niall told me." Liam interrupted him.
"We did." Harry showed off the ring before continuing. "But we both want to get married. I want to do it in a few weeks, once he stops physical therapy and he is officially 100%. Or at least close to it. I don't know where it's going to happen or anything, I'm still trying to figure out all the details, but I know I'll need your help to get him out of the house so I can set up. Sounds good?"
They both nodded, as they heard Louis calling out from the living room.
"Harry?"
Harry made his way to Louis, who was still half asleep.
"What's up darling?" He sat down close to him, as Louis grabbed his hand.
"Can you get me some paracetamol please?" He gave Harry a soft smile and kissed his hands, as Harry nodded grabbing the medication from the bag. He grabbed a bottle of water and handed Louis the pills. He took a sip and laid back down.
"Do you want to go upstairs?" Harry asked.
"I don't feel like it. I'm too lazy." Louis' eyes were closed and his voice was almost at a whisper. "Using the crutches takes a lot of my energy, you know?"
"It's fine, I'll take you up. You guys can go now, we should be good." He motioned towards the door, talking to Niall and Liam.
"Okay call us if you need anything!" They left as Harry picked Louis up, careful not to jostle his knee too much. Louis was practically asleep the whole way.
Harry brought him to his and Louis' room, gently placing him in the bed. He covered him and went to walk out, before feeling a tug on his shirt.
"Kiss me you fool" Louis still didn't open his eyes, just puckering his lips waiting for Harry.
Harry smiled before leaning in for the kiss, and ruffling Louis' hair. He left as Louis slept soundly on and off for the rest of the day.
