ALEC POV:

Alec walked down the long heavily decorated hallway that lead to the throne room. His parents, Maryse and Robert, were waiting for him wanting to talk about his future as the king of Idris. He had been told to come to the throne room immediately as it was a pressing issue and could not be delayed. His stride quickened as he overheard the raised voices of his parents bickering a couple rooms down the hall.

"Robert, he must have a selection!" He heard his mother say in a slightly annoyed voice.

"He needs to have a choice in these kind of things." His father replied.

"I had a selection when I was his age, and look how that turned out! I would never have met you if it hadn't occurred!"

Alec opened the doors hesitantly not wanting to be caught eavesdropping on a conversation that was clearly not meant for him to hear.

"Mother. Father. You wanted to speak with me?" He asked in his usual quiet voice.

"Why yes, Alexander," his mother replied "Come forward."

Alec stepped forward his head tilted down but his eyes, gleaming like sapphires, stayed locked on his parents' faces.

"We have decided-well, I have decided-that you shall have a selection just like I did when your age." Said his mother her face, an emotionless mask pasted on her face.

"Of course mother, I understand. We must preserve the family name." He responded a fake smile plastered on his face.

"That's my boy, I'm glad we agree on this topic. We will announce this to all of Idris first thing tomorrow morning." she said with a gleam in her eye that wasn't there before.

Alec nodded his head and turned around fast, not wanting his mother to see the scowl that was beginning to form on his mouth. He walked out of the throne room looking at the ground. This was not good, he thought, how can mother and father do this to him? Wasn't it bad enough with just Isabelle? His parents wanted to bring 24 random girls into the palace?!? And worst of all, he was destined to marry one of them!

His head jolted up when he crashed into his sister bringing them both to the floor.

"Were you listening this whole time?" he asked, outraged.

"Yes, I have. And I would like to say only one thing: what is wrong with you Alec? How could you let her step all over you? Don't you know what this will do to your life? Wait, don't answer that last question because I already know the answer: it will ruin it. It will ruin your life! You will spend a couple of months torturing yourself with decisions between 24 girls that only want either money, the crown or to have you in their bed! And then what? When you finally do choose a girl, you will have to marry her! And we both know that you would never be happy with a girl." Putting extra emphasis on the 'girl' Isabelle put her hands on her hips and waited for a response from her older brother.

He sighed. "Yes, I know Izzy. Everything you said is true. I don't want to do this but I have to, I'm not like you, I'm the heir and it's not my choice to make."

Isabelle stormed off, you could practically see the smoke billowing out of her ears in frustration.
