Clary POV:
Clary was sitting at the kitchen table sketching in her special notepad; where she drew the dreams that stuck with her. Currently, she was sketching a pair of golden eyes that seemed to appear in her dreams every night.
She looked up, startled when she heard a noise from the front of the house. She sighed, it was just the mailman. She didn't know why, but she had gotten a bit jumpy these past few weeks after the strange encounter that she and Simon had had with Sebastian. Simon had gone to the palace to start his training as a palace guard a few weeks ago. She missed him immensely.
She shut her notepad and went out of the front door muttering quick 'thank you' to the mailman.
There were two letters that caught her attention when she put them down on the kitchen table. Both had crisp white envelopes and were sealed with the Lightwood family crest which could only mean one thing: they were from the palace. The first one was addressed to her and her mother. She quickly tore it open and read something that immediately out a smile on her face.
To: The Family of Lady Lydia Fairchild,
This year, the royal family has decided to host a Christmas Ball to go along with Prince Alexander Gideon Lightwood's selection.
You have been formally invited to attend to this event as you are part of Lady Lydia Fairchild's family.
We await your arrival tomorrow at noon in the palace,
The Royal Family
Clary was elated when she finished reading that letter. She was going to see Lydia again! She had missed her sister so much. All the secret looks that they passed between each other, all the coded tugs on their ears when they need to talk. Everything that you might have with the dearest person in your life had been left out in these past months.
There was a package that came with the letter. It had a little tag that read: Dresses For Jocelyn and Clarissa Fairchild
Clary couldn't wait to tell her mother. She scrambled up the stairs, the package tucked under her arm.
She ripped the brown wrapper off of the box and pulled out the most stunning dress she had ever seen on her life. She was in tears when she pulled out the shoes that went with the dress.
It was the most beautiful thing that she had ever seen in her life. She ran her fingers over the smooth fabric and sighed. For the first time since her sister had left for the palace, Clary felt a pang of jealously. She wondered what it must be like getting to wear dresses like the one that she had in front of her every day.
"Clary! I'm home!" she heard her mother call from downstairs. Clay quickly put on her lustrous gown and stepped out into the hallway where her mother simply stared at her, mouth open.
