Simon POV:
The moment that the alarm went off, Simon lurched forward from and started running down the halls he had memorized during training. Just like in a drill, he ran towards where the royals were. Today was the big Christmas ball with all of the selected's families. He had hoped that he would be able to see Clary and comfort her after what he had said in the letter.
He frowned thinking about it, poor Clary must be devastated. But it was necessary, so I can have her all to myself. She is so oblivious, never noticing the way I feel about her. It's quite obvious, both her mother and sister have mentioned it... but never around Clary. She loved Sebastian and I had hopefully changed that, it wasn't even that hard and I didn't have to lie; he was cheating on her. I even saw him sneak out of the Whitewillow's house.
I don't think what I did was that bad....
He was brought back to reality when a large boom echoed throughout the halls, drawing his attention immediately to the royal family and the large crowds of people that were running around the room, in a state of panic.
He ran out of the ball room and stood guard at the huge double doors, as the 'last defence'. He didn't like being called that because it made it seem as if everybody else had died.
Not long after he posted himself at the doors, he saw a stray rebel. Clearly sent out to scout ahead because he didn't have the build to be a fighter. Simon snatched out his gun and fired, not even blinking as the rebel's lifeless body hit the ground.
--------------------------------------------------------------
He had stepped into the ballroom after the head guard had given the 'all clear' and told the queen that the rebels had been flushed out of the palace and that there was no need to worry anymore. The queen had nodded sharply and stood up announcing the news that she had just received.
Simon had looked around but he couldn't seen the familiar redhead anywhere. He panicked, and rushed out of the ballroom, his heavy boots thumping on the marble floors.
He jogged down the halls, searching frantically for Clary. He checked in every secret room that he passed, sighing deeply when the door would open and it would empty.
Having his hopes set on the final room of the hall, he pressed the crooked stone, holding his breath as the door slowly slid open.
His stomach dropped.
This can't be happening.
After everything that he had done to have her all to himself, this was the result?
There, tucked into the corner of the room, was Clary. But she wasn't alone.
It was disgusting.
Clary was sucking prince Jace's face off. Just the thought of it made a shiver go down his spine.
The worst part wasn't Clary though, it was that awful, selfish, yucky, jerk.
Jace.
Just his name made Simon nauseous.
Jace was clutching her hair and stuffing his tongue down her throat.
Bleh.
Simon's fists clenched involuntarily.
He cleared his throat, desperate to break off this revolting scene that was unfolding in front of him.
"Sorry to interrupt your highness but the rebels have been cleared out of the castle, you are free to come out." He said, his voice monotonous.
He watched as Clary sprung away from Jace, her cheeks flushed bright pink and her lips swollen. He noticed the exact moment of horror when she realized that it was him.
"Simon," She whispered, her eyes wide with shock.
"Clary," He responded, his voice showing no emotion.
"I swear nothing happened, we were just kissing."
"Just kissing?" Jace cut in, "How quickly you dismiss our love."
Simon scowled.
Clary looked at Jace and then back at Simon.
"Your highness, I'm sorry for my reaction, I just didn't expect her to stoop so low as making out with a dyed-blonde wannabe goth weirdo." Simon said, his teeth clenched.
"Simon!" Clary said, shock and hurt written all over her face. "Why are you being like this?!? Jace is a good guy; he helped me with the break-up."
Jace had a smug look on his face as she said this. And Simon hated to see that behind the smugness, there were actual feelings behind those horribly odd gold eyes.
"I'm the one that has always been there for you, not him," Simon paused, pointing his finger directly at Jace's chest, "Don't you see? I-I'm in love with you... An-and it's clear that you don't feel the same way," Simon said, his voice cracking. He turned and walked out of the room without saying another word.
"Simon!" He heard Clary say behind him as he walked out the door. He didn't turn around though, he couldn't; it was too painful seeing the girl that he had loved for almost his whole life in the arms of a man she had just met.
