^in love 😭😭💖💖

Oikawa's situation only got worse; his fever spiked up to a deadly 105 degree Fahrenheit.

It happened on an early Sunday morning, since Iwaizumi was somewhat free for the day, he decided to take his time snuggling in the covers, but the erratic coughs from the other room only made him jump to his feet and he dashed to the other room. Oikawa had still been under the covers, but when Iwaizumi brought his hand to his forehead, he flinched.

He was literally burning...

"M-Momma..." The weakest of whispers had come from Oikawa as he hacked an unstoppable torrent of wet coughs. He'd let out a painful whimper after that.

"Tooru! Tooru, hey, I'm gonna get you a doctor ok?"

The other barely opened his eyes, his face was flushed and he was trembling terribly. A bubble of pure panic formed in his chest.

"I-Iwa-chan..."

Iwaizumi was already on his phone, frantically calling for an emergency. An hour later and Oikawa had been hooked onto an IV.

They were now at the hospital.

The rooms were paler than the fake flowers near the window, the room was devoid of any hue that showed life and the boy in the bed in front of Iwaizumi laid still. The slow dripping of the IV liquid flowed it's way through the tube and disappeared into the covers, where he knew he would find it punctured into the delicate arm of Oikawa.

Iwaizumi sighed, this was bad.

He stayed in the hospital all night, sleeping a wink, wanting to be seen by Oikawa when he opened his eyes despite the nurses' protests.

Iwaizumi hated hospitals, something about the smell of alcohol and the white-washed decor made him feel depressed, the sickening reality that someone dear passes away in that building knocks him whenever he's there.

He hated it because it was the last time he saw his mother. He hated it because he knew somewhere, maybe a few floors from here, someone was hanging onto their breath on a fine line of thread.

Of course, there were the occasional miracles like new lives springing to renew this sense of hopelessness, but with every pass of a doctor on the hallway, he couldn't help but think that someone's life was depending on them.

He hated it because Oikawa was here, laying motionless, the only sign of hope for him was the constant but faint beeping of the ECG, indicating Oikawa's beating heart.

Please keep breathing... please wake up...

He dug the heels of his palms into his exhausted eyes, he sighed loudly again. He never knew it would be this worse, if he had, he would've taken more care of Oikawa.

Amidst the silence that went by uncounted, a soft whisper cut it through, barely, "I-I'm sorry..."

Iwaizumi's head whipped up, taking in the sight of the paler boy, his hazel eyes staring back at his though half-lidded.

A small smile was on his face, "Iwa-chan..."

"Tooru..." Iwaizumi felt as if his heart would burst open, it thumped excruciatingly in his chest. He leaned in to let the other get a good look at him, as soon as they made eye contact a grin broke onto their faces.

"...You scared me, Tooru." Iwaizumi's eyes were a bit glassy; this was one of the plenty miracles he was willing to hang onto.

"Sorry..." His grin reflected off his shiny hazel eyes.
