Tobio Kageyama was never good with gifts, he never knew what to give, what to say and how to deliver any form of acclamation.
Really, every year for Hinata's birthday he would either buy the ginger a volleyball or a good supply of mandarins - like, what else was he supposed to buy him? A card?
The black-haired boy was in the store, choosing between the assorted volleyballs available there; there was Mikasa with its signature yellow and blue lines that always sparked interest in Tobio, then there was the nostalgic Molten, the intersecting red and green colours-
"K-Kageyama... Tobio-san?!"
He looked to his right, slightly pushing his hair aside which had been squashed down by the hoodie on his head.
"...Yeah?"
"It really is you!?"
It was a woman, she had brown hair and blue-ish eyes, which sparkled unrealistically under the fair lit store, she had her hands clamped together and Tobio noticed that underneath her jumper, she was wearing a number nine jersey, red.
Aahhh.... a fan...
"Yes, that would be me." Damn, this was gonna be.. Weird. Really wish Shoyo was here, he was better at this stuff than I am.
"Can I please have your autograph? And a picture."
"Picture?"
"Yes." In her nervous hands was a little notepad and pen, along with her phone.
After doing what he was accustomed to do, he handed the girl her notebook and went back to scavenging for a birthday gift.
"Thank you very much, Kageyama-san."
"No problem." He smiled non threateningly, grimacing towards the end.
The girl held onto the notepad and phone like her life depended on it - really, it was quite amusing to see the reactions come out of some of his fans, he could never forget the way some of his fans had the tendency to nosebleed whenever Ushijima was around, it was fairly alarming, Tobio decided.
They were everywhere, and yet the sight of a single man seemed to-
"Wait!" He heard himself call out, out of his own control. The girl whipped her hair around instantly and made her way towards him, eyes curious.
"C-can I ask for a favour?"
The girl didn't say anything, just stared at him.
"...Please." He added, thinking that he was being too rude, he looked away, a frown on his face with an uneven smile.
"Ohmygosh, yes. I'll help you with anything, oh shit."
Tobio looked at the girl with a genuine smile, "Thanks, you're really nice."
For some reason the girl's face turned an unnatural shade of red and she looked as if she might pass out.
"Are you okay?" He was concerned, utterly oblivious to the fact that his every step towards her only made things worse.
"I-I'm fine... What did you want help with?" The girl was pinching her nose, taking deep breaths.
"Oh um... well, I'm looking for a birthday gift, but I don't know what to buy."
