Jacob and Luka walked to the bonfire that was next to Sam's house, you could see the blistering flames of the fire reach up into the dark sky. Jacob started to tell Luka everything she needed to know about the tribe before making it to the meeting. All the council members were there which were Billy, Quil Ateara Sr, an older native man with white hair, and also there was an older woman with long jet-black hair. Jacob told Luka that her name was Sue Clearwater. Standing next to Sue Clearwater was a tall muscular man with copper skin and black hair. Luka had a feeling that this was Sam from what Jacob has mentioned about him. There were also two other males with cropped jet-black hair, copper skin, and one girl built much like Luka but with shoulder-length jet-black hair and a sullen face. The other pack members had to stay in the woods watching over the reservation.
As Luka and Jacob walk up to the group, many of them stare at Luka, making her feel nervous and causing her to move closer to Jacob. "This is my daughter, Luka, as I mentioned over the phone, " Bill says to the other council members wanting to hurry this along. Luka nods to them all, not feeling comfortable around them.
"And what makes you think she is telling the truth?" Sam asked while looking Luka over as he folded his arms over his chest.
Luka glares at Sam, " Yeah like I would so come here telling people that I can explode into a damn puppy just for kicks, " Luka said sarcastically, putting her hands on her hips. Sam glares at Luka, about to say something else when Sue intervenes.
"She is Billy and Sarah's daughter, it's not that hard to believe she possesses the gene, Sam. Or have you forgotten my daughter is also a wolf?" she said while giving Sam a stern look.
Luka happily smiles because finally, someone was willing to hear her out. At that moment, a familiar voice speaks to Luka in her mind "They will only listen if you show them," the familiar voice said. Luka's head turns fast toward Jacob, almost giving herself whiplash. Jacob smiles at his twin's reaction, instantly knowing the wolf he had spoken to a few nights ago was her. He wasn't certain why they could communicate in human form, but he knew it would be helpful. Luka now realizes it was Jacob, who helped her that night. she slowly nods and turns away from everyone walking into the forest. When Luka is certain she is in the woods far enough that no one will see her, she removes her clothes and hangs them over a tree branch. Luka backs away from the tree and closes her eyes, visualizing her wolf. She felt her body start to grow hot, and slowly expand right before she exploded into this beautiful powerful wolf.
"I don't trust her Billy, She was never raised among us, she barely knows the tribe's history," explained Sam, while they waited for Luka to return.
"And that's my father's fault. Not my sisters," Jacob yelled, jumping in to defend his sister.
Sam gets in Jacob's face, "You might be willing to put the tribe's safety at risk for a stranger Jake, but I am not," he yelled. A loud growl rips through the woods as a giant wolf walks out. Their fur was as white as freshly fallen snow. Sam slowly backs up as the wolf moves close to Jacob, snarling at Sam. Jacob gently caresses Luka's neck, and she stops growling at Sam. She slowly moves her head to look at Jacob. Luka's wolf was ten feet in length just like her brothers. The council and pack members stared at them both, surprised. The pack members could detect a commanding alpha presence radiating from Luka's wolf. It was so potent they had to fight the urge to bare their necks to her in submission.
Jacob looks to Sam, "Is that proof enough for you, Sam?" he asked sarcastically. Billy was still staring at his daughter, surprised. He could not only see but equally feel she was a natural alpha, just like her great grandfather Ephraim Black. He had always hoped Jacob would take up his birthright, but now he could see it was Luka who was born to lead.
After Luka changed back she goes over to sits with Jacob. The council informed her about why she had shifted and what attacked her that devastating night when she lost Peter and Nathan. The word vampire kept running through her mind as she listened to the council. "You will need to join the pack and follow my commands," Sam said once the council stopped explaining things to Luka.
"I'm sorry, what did you just say?" Luka asked, knowing there was no way he was demanding things of her.
"I'm the alpha of this pack, if you want to learn control, you must join the pack and follow my commands," Sam said as if he was speaking to a child.
"Jake had the chance to take over as alpha. I should have the same right," Luka said, standing up.
"You are a girl all alphas of this tribe have been, male. I also do not entrust you with this pack," Sam explained, his face cold.
"I'm not taking commands from a man I barely know!"Luka spat.
"You don't have a choice, You either join this pack, or you leave the reservation!" Sam growled, trying to use his alpha voice on her.
Luke growls and gets in Sam's face, " I am Luka black. I am the granddaughter of Ephraim Black. I am the granddaughter of a chief. I wasn't meant to follow you or anyone else!" Luka proclaimed before walking off into the woods, Jacob following her ignoring Sam's commands for him to stay.
