Tabby, Tilly and I walk into the studio and see all the instruments set up, Fern Cotton is just the other side of the glass and I can hear her talking about us. We are playing in the live lounge on BBC radio 1 today, "don't you find" by Jamie T.
We do it quite well but all we are really thinking about is getting home. We haven't been home in a while so when we finish we get straight out of London and down to Cornwall. Although I'm not going to cornwall, like Tabby and Tilly, I'm going to Nottingham, Jake's home.
Tilly's boyfriend (Van McCann from the band "catfish and the bottlemen") is spending Christmas down there but me and my dad are having it in Nottingham this year and then going back hone with Jake two days after boxing day.
Christmas eve.
I hear a knock on the door and instantly rush to it to see who it is... its dad, arrived from Cornwall, I open the door and welcome him in, Jakes mum comes rushing to the door and takes over, taking his coat and offering him tea... And so on... So I go back inside and up stairs where Jake sits at a keyboard and a guitar next to him.
"Dad's here" I smile at him.
"Oh great! I'll go and talk to him in a minute I just want to finish this first, have a listen."
He grabs his guitar and starts playing a brand new song, I close my eyes and listen, He sings like an angel and before I know it he plonks down the guitar and taps my shoulder "Tommy?" I open my eyes and he looks at me like it was nothing but the words are dark.
In fact they intimitade me but they way he sung it was like it was going to be okay any way because that's how the world works .
I don't know what to say - so I stare at him."its shit isn't it" he says looking down and starts to get up out of the chair. He walks out the room and I check he's gone then find the lyric sheet by the keyboard and I fall back onto the bed and lay. understanding the words.
They are about me. And an over whelming rush of emotion comes over my body, I start to cry but make it silent, I can't let any body hear.
About 7 minutes later, I walk down to everybody drinking and sitting in the living room. I immediately go and sit next to Jake and whisper in his ear. "It was amazing." He looks back at me and strokes my hair and kisses head.
We all engage in a group conversation and the topic turns to mine and Jake's relationship. I think I roll my eyes a lot in this conversation because I get embarrassed. But then Jake looks even more so and turns to me.
"well, this is what I was thinking about." He looks at me like I'm supposed to know what he's saying and Dad starts to walk out the room but Jake and his mum jump up to stop him.
"I think its best if Jake gets it don't you think Martin?"
"Yes, yes now just shut up for gods sake!"
They all murmor and Jake walks out the room leaving me alone with Dad and Leesya. They don't talk at all and I feel really anxious. "What is going on Dad?" He doesn't answer but his eyes well up with water. "Leesya?" She doesn't answer.
I look over to see Dad wiping his eyes and run go over to comfort him. "I'm fine, I'm fine!" He insists, smiling.
I walk back over to my chair and Jake walks in with a something under his jumper and I can only guess what it is - house Keyes. I feel relived, finally we can live together in peace.
He kneels down beside and gets the little box out. "Tommy, I know its quite soon in our relationship but... Um... Well I love you so much that I just want to get stuck in now! You are the brightest light in my galaxy Tomasina... Will you marry me?"
I gasp in shock and lean down to kiss him. "Yes Jake" I start to cry so much to hurts me and Jake picks me up and swings me round kissing me and he whispers in my ear, "Melony and Kenny". I don't understand until he says, "baby names" I nod my head and kiss him again.
Melony and Kenny were my mother's and brother's name.
I feel their presense, my mothers warm hug around my shoulders. It is as if Jake has brought them back to life again, it Is as if Jake has brought me back to life again...
Because I have never felt so alive.
