Chp. 9- Fatal mistake

Calypso's POV.

The woods were serene, almost too serene and silent for how my day had been.

The gentle breeze and the moonlight shinning on my face made my hectic day wash away. I then feel a twinge of guilt in my heart and wish Leo was here with me.

Oh gods, Leo. Was he worried? Probably not. He would have surely looked for me my now. My bets are on he just stayed in the cabin with his buddies and is just letting me cool off.

What even set me off? They didn't say anything. Not one rude word to me. I think it was just the stress of being around civilization again.. or something else.

The curfew horn sounds, but I don't care. I'm not even a demigod, what could they do to me?

I see harpies circling overhead and the laughs and screams of campers as they scramble into their cabins.

Must be nice, to have a semi normal life.

Leo's POV.

My lungs were burning from screaming her name.

I had been searching for almost an hour, and trying to avoid hungry harpies in the process.

I stop again at where the woods start and slump against a tree. I had circled camp almost 10 times now, with no luck.

My mind was going crazy with things that might have happened.

No, don't cry. Guys don't cry.

I tell myself and feel tears of hopelessness come.

My mind is scrambling for answers, at where she may be and how I can find her.

I sit up abruptly and look into the woods behind me.

Of course!

How had I not thought of this before? I am instantly on my feet and sprinting through the woods yelling some more.

I see frightened birds flying away, but I don't care.

I will do anything to find her and make sure she never feels this way again.

Calypso's POV.

I hear footsteps running through the woods, and jump to my feet.

I knew he would come looking for me! I knew it.

I run toward the footsteps with a wide smile on my face. But, it wasn't the two footsteps of a human.

My heart sinks down to my feet and my smile falls.

I feel defeated as I go back to the tree where I was sitting, but the footsteps still come.

It takes me a minute to register I may be in danger.

I whip my head around behind me as the steps get closer.

The thumping sound of 4 feet.

My eyes widen as I see tuffs of black fur through the trees, and with the heavy panting I knew not only what it was, but also that I could die in this very moment.

A scream escapes my lips, but I know no one can hear me. It gets closer, it's pointy white teeth gleaming in the moonlight.

I had only seen hellhounds in the first Titan war, and never one this close. I had seen what they can do and I did NOT want to end up like that.

I start to run, and wish my feet could carry me faster. I gather my nightgown in my hands and rush into a sprint as my hair flies wildly behind me.

"Help! Please!" The desperate gasps leave my lips and I know no one is here to help me now. My situation was now dire.

I will my legs to take me faster as I trip in stumble in the dark woods. The birds no longer sing, and all the animals have gone.

My foot unwillingly gets caught in a tree root, and I fall to the ground on my elbow and flail around wildly.

Where I landed on my elbow, I feel my arm start to go fuzzy and soon I can't feel it at all. I must have hit it in the wrong spot.

I let loose a bloody murder scream as the beast appears over me and starts to snap at my legs.

I slip off one of my shoes and throw it into the blood thirsty monsters eye, but that only infuriates it.

He swipes a paw at my leg, and I can see the long claw marks with blood flowing out. The pain registers a moment later, like fire was ripping its way down my leg.

This is all going too fast, I made a fatal mistake coming here tonight.
