Right, at one time or another during these events, you are probably thinking ....
Where the hell is Wen Ning?
He is a fierce corpse and was always loyal to Wei Ying.
Why was he not with Wei Ying during his time alone?
Why did the one person who trailed after Wei Ying all the time, not do anything to help? Give him company or even appear once?
No, Wen Ning was not given a robe as he didn't go into the temple.
He did not suddenly hate them all and decide to leave them to their own devices.
That night at the temple, when Wei Ying told Wen Ning to stay outside and keep everyone out ... he went running for the resentful energy he witnessed rising in the distance. He ran to find out what was happening as he knew that much resentful energy was incredibly dangerous for everyone .... Even though it meant going against what Wei Ying told him to do.
When he reached the outskirts of town, he was shocked to find Baxia slowly moving in the direction of the temple with an overwhelming swell of resentful energy rising higher and higher around it. So he went to grab it but stopped at the last second and realised that would be a very bad idea.
Instead he remembered what Wei Ying had done for him to stop him before he came back to himself all those years ago. He tried to smile but it came out odd, as he reached into his robes and pulled out something he had collected from the burial mounds not long after he knew where he was. All these years he had felt the urge to keep it with him and not tell anyone.
It's not lying or anything. He thought to himself. Young Master Wei never asked if I had it, or knew where it was, so keeping it to myself is not really lying or anything .... Right? If he had asked me for it, I would have handed it over without worry. Will he be upset with me?
Slowly he pulled out a long string with many talisman's stick to it about ten centimetres from each other. The moment he began to remove it, Baxia paused then slowly turned in his direction as if lured by what he had.
It suddenly rushed at him and slashed and jabbed over and over again. Trying desperately to destroy the binding string as if afraid of it.
'Baxia ....' Wen Ning dodged again and began to lure the spirit sword away from the town. I have to give Young Master Wei and Second Young Master Lan time to do what they need to do, no matter what. He again dodged the revenge filled spirit sword. 'That's it, you want to destroy this right? You know it can hurt you right?' he waved the long string so that the string unravelled and fluttered in the wind. Every time Baxia shot to one part of the binding string, Wen Ning would give it just the right shake or flip and it was out of the swords grasp.
This teasing style of luring continued until Wen Ning knew they had reached far enough away from the town and temple to let him do what he needed to do.
'I'm sorry Master Wei if I fail ... or die for real.' Wen Ning shot a few meters away from Baxia then lifted his arm and swung it around in the air over his head until the whole binding string was over his head like a tornado. The wind created by this lifted leaves into the air and they were suddenly caught up in the movement.
Baxia paused for just a moment before thrusting itself deep into Wen Ning's chest .... Right where his heart would have been if he were alive......
At that precise moment, Wen Ning pulled hard on the binding string and it fell around him and wrapped incredibly tightly, locking him and Baxia together. The sword was utterly bound and unable to move an inch. So with this contact, Wen Ning began to draw the resentful energy into his body.
'Young Master Wei has taught me how to do this. If the resentful energy is becoming too much ... all I have to do is leak it out into the ground as if it were blood. Now that Baxia has opened my .... Flesh, it will be easier to do that part. Sorry Young Master Wei if I fail.'
He pulled the slowly weakening Baxia with him into the ground and kept it with him in that moist dank soil as he took in every ounce of anything negative from that sword ............ and at the same time, bled it into the ground itself.
He drained it of all the resentful energy and it took .... So long.
As a fierce corpse, Wen Ning does not get tired or sleep but .... Time can slip from you when you are in the dark.
Finally Wen Ning opened his eyes knowing the sword was now just that .... A sword with nothing in it.
Only now, he had no idea of how much time had passed .... It could have been minutes or years or centuries for all he knew. He thrust his arm out of the soil and into the clean air before crawling from the ground and sitting on to pull the sword out of his chest.
He sat there looking at the sword and knew what he needed to do with it... depending on how long this act had taken him.
He would either find Young Master Wei at the temple and give it to him or, in case it was far longer since he began, take it to the Nie sect and leave it with a small note saying he had cleansed it so it can be interred with its owner ...
He quickly hid the sword under his cloak then ran back to the temple ... only to find no temple there. He looked around for hours until finally he stopped at a small stall in a corner of the market.
'Excuse me sir .... Where is the temple?'
'Temple ..... Oh, do you mean the one that use to stand just down that way. That thing was ripped down after the truth was found out. No one will ever bow down to a whore. But they built a new one in the mountain up there.' He pointed to the right of the mountain side.
'No, it's alright. How long since it was taken down may I ask?'
'Well .... Let's see .... It must be something like two ... no ... nearly three years ago now.'
'Thank you.' Wen Ning ran as fast as he could to the Nie temple and placed the sword on the top step with a scroll he had come across on which he explained what he did and that there was no longer any danger form it. Then he stood up and looked into the direction of Cloud Recesses. Yes, he was sure there would be only a few places Wei Ying would go and if Lan Zhan was there, so would Wei Ying be.
'I am coming Young Master Wei.' Since the moment he woke, at the back of his mind lay a well of concern about his friend, as not once over the years, did he feel Wei Ying.
From the moment he was made a fierce corpse, he had felt where his maker was at all times. That was how he could be where he was needed at all times.
But now ........
That feeling was gone.
And that made him very uneasy.
Was his friend alive?
It would take Wen Ning two months to arrive at the Cloud Recesses in search of Wei Ying and the things he over heard on the way .... They hurt to hear.
