Paul was well aware that no matter where they went, they would be spotted with Jen with them. So they opted for a restaurant, asking for a table at the back and were instantly accommodated for. A few stares and gasps but nothing out of the ordinary and everyone seemed to be respectable, probably because it was after 10 o'clock and the place wasn't very busy. Luckily they had a car big enough to take them all.
At the table sat Jen, Paul and Jomm on one side, and Mew and Gulf on the other. Jomm manoeuvred her way beside Paul and Jen subconsciously filled the seat. They all ordered, Jen translating for Paul, Paul feeling apologetic.
"Did you really not know?" Jen had been updating Paul on her current affairs while everyone else had their own conversations. She shook her head, playing with her food.
"They blindsided me..." Being reminded that she would be working continuously over the now 5 months instead of taking a break, definitely stung. Every now and then it would hit her. She was never one to express how she felt but when she did, it had to be with someone she could trust. Paul could be trusted.
"And you're just taking it? Not like you," he bumped her shoulder and gave a convincing chuckle to try cheer her up. Gulf's head rose from his conversation with Mew and Jomm when he heard the familiar laugh that he had grown to like over the past month.
"What do you reckon they're talking about?" Gulf whispered to Mew. He responded with a confused look. "They look very close for not having seen each other in years."
"And? Maybe they are close..." Mew tried to read Gulf's face while he stared at Jen and Paul, not understanding a single word of their conversation. Mew's attention drew towards them too.
"What about the rest of the crew, do they know too? I doubt Sun would be very happy about it, he's always been very protective of you and Jisoo." Mew's interest peaked.
"Jisoo?" Jen couldn't help but giggle behind her hand.
"And what about them? Do they know you're being forced to do this show?" Paul asked, knowing full well if they didn't know, they did now.
"Leave it, Paul..." Gulf turned to Mew for translation.
"You're being forced? Who would do that?" Mew spoke in Thai, realising how hard the language barrier was going to be for everyone at the table.
"It's not a big deal, honestly, let's just leave it." She turned to Paul shooting him a glare.
"Wait, is that why you're not on your hiatus? I'm sure I read something about a press conference online but I had no idea that's what it was about." Mew looked genuinely sympathetic while pressing her for the truth.
"I mean technically it's my own fault, I hadn't fully finished the contract. I just didn't realise how long I had left on it and I guess now I know why we were even allowed to have a hiatus in the first place..." she trailed off.
"You deserve a break, this is torture. They shouldn't be able to get away with this." Gulf noticed Paul's hand on her shoulder and shifted in his seat.
"I do have a break, tomorrow actually. I have the day off." She looked around the table, no one was buying a day as a break.
"Well you're in luck, I also have the day off." Paul moved closer to Jen in a way less friendly, Gulf thought. I need to learn English.
