"How? I thought you had died!" Ivy said, bewildered. She knew that voldemort might possibly be using corpses to get people to trust them, but Sirius's body had fell through the veil, and yet here he was, standing in the entrance hall of their home.
"I hadn't died, that's not what the veil is for. It was a torture method that the ministry of magic used a very long time ago, of course, it's too cruel to use now so they avoid it. I was trapped there and had to wait until the ministry had cleared out from their investigations."
Ivy's eyes stung with tears that threatened to flow down her cheeks, she raced off the last two stairs and hugged Sirius again.
"Shh... shhh... it's alright. I'm here. I'm ok. We can be a family again." His exhale was uneven and it seemed he might cry too. "All of us... together." Sirius turned around and pulled Remus towards the two of them, kissing him gently on the cheek.
"Yes well if you don't mind... I'm going to tell Tonks that she doesn't need to come. What are we going to tell the order?"
Ivy stepped back from Sirius and looked over at the fireplace, "I can tell Dumbledore when we go back to Hogwarts. I don't trust the fireplaces, if the ministry could track the fireplaces at Hogwarts they can track anywhere and that's a risk I personally don't want to take."
Moony nodded with a soft smile and sat down on the sofa, gesturing for Sirius to sit so he could continue the story.
"Like I said, the veil was a torture device, it was easy enough to escape I just had to wait for the investigators to leave. Basically it showed you all of your worst memories or ghosts of people you once knew who come around and yell at you. Honestly it's enough to drive anyone mad but I think I've suffered worse." He smiled but his eyes were haunted and the smirk seemed more sad than anything.
Moony kissed him on the cheek with a fond smile and stood up, "I'm sure you're hungry, I'm going to make tea and get something for you."
"Don't trouble yourself Remus, the full moon is close I'll get it myself." Sirius sat up and Ivy went upstairs to retrieve a book again.
Her family was back together. For a moment she almost felt... normal? Well, at least as normal as it was for her.
