The next day, Ivy and her best friends rushed to Defence against the dark arts, only to find that snape was not there. In his place was tiny professor Flitwick, striding across the room, talking to everyone about protective charms as Ivy found a seat next to Dennis.
"Professor, where is professor snape?" Ivy asked, she wasn't complaining, but why was snape not arriving to his dream job, on the second day? Professor Flitwick gave a small smile and said, "Professor Snape is currently at an urgent meeting" he mentioned it no more, but continued talking about the rules of dueling.
At breakfast the next morning, Ivy received a note from Mooney, it seemed as though he was quite irritated ,though, as Ivy read the letter;
Dear Ivy,
Snape rushed to an emergency meeting yesterday upon Harry's request. He's been saying that Draco Malfoy has become a death eater. Snape's been in a state at the thought of having to leave his job, and yes we received your letter. I don't know what Dumbledore is planning but I'm sure he has a reason for giving Severus the job.
-Moony.
Ps: Snuffles says hi.
Ivy nodded and tucked the note into her pocket, stroking Athena fondly as she nibbled on her toast. Athena clicked her beak affectionately before taking off towards the owlery.
Later that day, Ivy sat, watching the giant squid floating across the lake. She had the letter clutched in her hand. Snape had given her a detention for "spreading rumors" when he got back. Apparently writing to your guardian about a new teacher was problematic, though if you asked Ivy, Snape seemed to be more on edge than usual. The thought made her annoyed, but at least it was only one night's worth, and not a whole two months like last year. She was thinking about it more when a light and dreamy voice spoke behind her.
"Is something wrong?" Said Luna Lovegood. She was staring off into the forest. "I'm sorry about your uncle, but I don't think he's really gone." She said. Ivy gave her a small smile and replied "you could say that"
"Do you want to go into the forest?" Luna asked. Ivy looked at her, wide eyed, Luna never seemed like the kind of person to break rules. "I've been in their loads of times the thestrals protect you if your kind enough to them" she turned back to look at Ivy, "I saw your animagus form at the ministry." She continued. "Can you still do it?" Ivy looked out onto the lake, and muttered in an undertone "yeah"
She and Luna walked off into the forest. Luna seemed to understand everything Ivy said, she got to the point when Ivy was telling her about the night of the third task in her first year, Luna seemed mildly interested. Suddenly, Luna broke off into a run, Ivy thought for a split second, turned into a dog, and tore after her. Ivy barked at the clearing that Luna was standing in. Luna turned around and smiled at Ivy when she turned back. Luna was surrounded by thestrals, Ivy recognized a particularly large male that she had ridden to the ministry. She went up and rested a hand on his leathery, bony rib cage. "Hello Apollo" she whispered. Apollo let out a sound that was more like a small screech, and a small little thestral cantered over and nuzzled Apollo while a slightly smaller, but full grown female walked over to Apollo and did the same. "Lovely creatures" said Luna, observing the baby. "You could name them, the heard already seems to trust you." Luna walked over to the baby, and knelt down, pulling a small peice of meat out of her bag and handing it to him.
Ivy smiled and looked at him. "Hades" she whispered, and the baby looked over at her, he spread his small leathery wings and shook them. She turned to the Female. "Aphrodite" she said. As the Female walked over to her. Luna and Ivy spent the rest of the afternoon naming all of the herd members after greek gods and goddesses.
