baby, you're like lightning in a bottle.

what could go wrong at a party with a mixture of players from the different volleyball teams in the prefecture? well, when kageyama and hinata start flirting and alcohol is brought into the mix, the answer is a lot.

[caution - smut, reader discretion advised]

the boys of the karasuno high school volleyball team were all talking about the same thing after practice on friday as they stretched and drank water and wiped off their sweat. the last match of the national volleyball championship was tomorrow night and it was all that was on most of their minds.

kageyama was sitting in a secluded corner, filing his nails, vaguely tuning into the conversation and cursing himself for waiting for hinata to ask him to watch the game together, yet doing it all the same. it would be weird if kageyama, the known introvert, asked hinata over, but if hinata did it, no one would bat an eye. it wasn't as if kageyama was so desperate to spend time with hinata outside of practice that he would wait until the last moment to watch the match.... though now he thought of it, that's exactly what kageyama would do.

the problem was that kageyama had had plenty of team mates in his life that he worked well with, and what he was really lacking was friends, whereas hinata had all the friends he wanted while lacking in team mates for most of his life. kageyama didn't like thinking about this too much - the fact that hinata had a life and friends apart from volleyball and kageyama was too much for him to handle. because for kageyama, hinata was sort of all there was.

"hey, kageyama." hinata's voice pulled kageyama out of this thoughts as he approached him and then sat down right in front of kageyama, so that their knees were touching. kageyama shrunk back slightly; hinata was always so touchy in a non aggressive way, it was discomforting.

"so do you want to watch the match together tomorrow night?"

kageyama couldn't help freezing up in front of hinata. how could he say it so casually, as if it was nothing at all to ask someone over to your house?

because it's not, idiot, said a voice inside his head.

"er..." said kageyama, not know why he was hesitating when this was exactly what he wanted, but before he could figure it out, daichi call the team to attention.

"alright, everyone," he said, clapping his hands and glancing back at coach ukai and takeda sensei, as if making sure they weren't listening, "i know we're all excited for the big match tomorrow, so i thought maybe we could all watch it together, since my parents are away for the weekend and i'll have the house to myself."

hinata nudged kageyama and kageyama gritted his teeth. he didn't exactly want to spend the day with the whole team.

wait, what am i thinking? why would i want to be alone with hinata? that would just be awkward.

that voice had raised a good point. it would be awkward to be completely alone with hinata off the court. it was fine in school or going to the shop together, but sometimes even when they walked home alone together kageyama's stomach would twist into knots. he probably wouldn't be able to concentrate on the match if he was alone with hinata.

"i also thought," daichi continued, "that we could invite some people from the other teams in other schools, you know, so we could be united for once."

"are you inviting the nekoma team?" asked hinata, bobbing up excitedly.

kageyama knew why hinata was so eager for them to be there and tried not to grumble that kenma would probably not show up even if he was invited.
