i wanna ruin our friendship. . . we should be lovers instead.

"get the last!"

kageyama's eyes darted around his teammates, following the ball as it bounced off each of their arms, finally coming straight into kageyama's hands, waiting to be set. who to toss to? his opponent expected him to toss to hinata, as he usually did, but asahi had a clearer shot, and he was much more reliable of a spiker. he should set the ball to asahi...

and yet... why were kageyama's hands poised just perfectly to toss to hinata right now? he couldn't help the way he arched his back and pushed the ball into the air as his eyes landed on the flying figure of hinata, his arms splayed behind his back just before the ball stopped in front of him and he raised them. kageyama watched hinata's eyes widen slightly, surprised the ball was even coming to him when there were three blockers right in front of him, but he didn't have time to hesitate. he spiked the ball, hitting it against kindaichi's fingers. kageyama's heart soared as his eyes followed the ball, but it fell with a thud as the ball did not: oikawa slid out behind the blockers with an incredible receive, tossing the ball into the air.

karasuno did not have time to react; iwaizumi was already springing into the air, his hand reaching out the hit the ball enormously close to the net...

kageyama rushed out to receive it, as did a number of his teammates, but it was futile. the ball had hit the ground long before he reached there, and all he could do was look up at iwaizumi's looming figure in shock as the coach blew the whistle, indicating the end of the match.

kageyama resisted the urge to stand up and throttle everyone on the seijoh team right now as they celebrated their win, and oikawa couldn't seem to resist his urge to smirk complacently at kageyama while his teammates were cheering each other on.

"kageyama, calm down, it's just a practice match," said daichi warningly, grabbing the back of kageyama's collar as they were both standing up.

"sorry," said kageyama instantly, turning to daichi and giving him a small bow. "for that and for the game..."

daichi was right, it was just a practice match, but it was supposed to give them a realistic idea of how the real match would go, right? and right now, here, kageyama had caved and given hinata a toss that even hinata hadn't expected, hadn't begged for. kageyama had just done it because he wanted to. simply because hinata had that effect on him; he could hardly see or focus on anyone else when hinata was right there. it was disgusting.

thankfully, hinata didn't say anything about this to kageyama after the match, probably because he was too busy apologizing profusely to his teammates, but even when he did speak to kageyama, he was unnaturally warm with him.

"thanks for giving me the toss, kageyama!" he said brightly as they were packing up their things, causing kageyama to blush instantly.

"what?" he hissed. "that was the reason we -" kageyama cut himself off. he knew hinata would fly off the handle if kageyama told him they lost because kageyama had tossed to him.

"sorry i couldn't get it, but - thanks for believing i could!" hinata continued, before grinning wider. "i think you like me more than you let on, kageyama kun."

"that's - er - that's not -" kageyama spluttered, his heart racing.

"well," said hinata, unfazed as he was slinging his duffel bag over his shoulder, "we'd better get going. by the way, if my mom did what i asked and taped those episodes of baki today, do you wanna come over to my house to watch them tomorrow?"

"i - um..." kageyama sighed, swallowing his nervousness. "sure."

"great! um - i think the grand king has something he wants to say to you."
