Stay while you can

It was a beautiful Friday morning. Alex had just woken up and was happy to have Jennifer back in bed with him and to have her in his arms again. He pulled her close and played with her hair as she slept.

"I love you so so much and I am never going to let you go... I will be here for you through thick and thin... and I won't mess this up..." Alex whispered and kissed Jennifer's head softly. She moved a bit in her sleep and snuggled up to Alex some more. Alex turned on the tv and watched tv for a bit. The kids were already awake and were downstairs making breakfast for Jennifer. 

Once the food was made, the kids served then put it on a tray and put a cup of tea on the tray as well. They went upstairs and went to go take it to Jennifer. They slowly walked into the room and Alex tapped Jennifer's arm softly.

"babe... Wake up, there's something here for you..." Alex said as Jennifer moved a bit then slowly woke up and stretched. She sat up and saw the kids. "Awww cocos!!" Jennifer said as she smiled widely. Tashi put the tray on her lap carefully and smiled.

"We wanted to do something special for our mama. We love you so so much." Tashi said and smiled at Jen.

"You're too kind. I love you all." Jennifer said and smiled as she began to eat. "Mmhh so yummy." She added as she continued to eat.

"We love you too mommy. Ans we made the food with loveee." Max said and smiled sweetly.

The kids got on the bed and snuggled with Jen. Alex turned on the tv and they watched the movie Tangled.

"Mom, if you were a princess, who would you be?" Emme asked Jennifer.

"Hmm... I would be cinderella... And Alex would be my prince charming." Jennifer said and giggled.

"I like that." Alex said and chuckled softly.

After the movie ended, the kids, Jennifer, and Alex got dressed and went out to the mall.

On the way there, Jennifer got extremely nauseous and made Alex pull over. Once they pulled over, Jennifer got out of the car and was violently throwing up. Alex got out of the car and helped her. He rubbed her back and sighed softly. Shortly after Jennifer was done, she became very pale and weak. She collapsed but Alex caught her and helped her back into the car. He buckled her in and closed the door then got back inside the car and drove to the nearby hospital where Jen had her last chemo session.

"Is mom going to be okay??" Emme asked worriedly.

"I don't know baby. We need to take her to the hospital to make sure she is okay. Okay, baby? Just stay strong. Once we get there, we will check up on her." Alex said trying to reassure her that everything will be okay.

A few minutes later, they arrived and parked the car. The kids got out immediately and so did Alex. Alex got Jennifer out and carried her into the hospital.

"Help!!! Help!!" Alex called out and nurses rushed to him.

"What happened?" The nurse said as she rushed to help them.

"My girlfriend passed out after throwing up. She just had her last chemo session recently. Her name is Jennifer Lopez." Alex said worriedly.

The nurse immediately recognized her and gasped. "Jennifer... I had her as my patient. Alright, follow me!" The nurse said and immediately lead Alex and the kids to a room and got the doctor to come to follow as well. A few other nurses joined as well and they began to hook up Jennifer to monitors as well as take tests.

The kids watched in fear as they stood by Alex who was nervous and tense.

"I am going to need you guys to wait in the waiting room please." A nurse said and escorted them out. Alex and the kids went to the room.

"Daddy what is going on???" Tashi asked worriedly as she began to tear up.

"I don't know baby girl. We will know once the nurse comes and tells us what happened... Just stay calm and be patient.." Alex said and sighed softly.

Tashi nodded softly.

After a few hours, the nurse walked over to Alex and the kids. "Mr. Rodriguez..?" The nurse said.

"Yes, that's me," Alex said. "Can I speak to you in private?" The nurse asked.

"Of course. Kids stay here and wait." Alex said to the kids and walked with the nurse to a more private room.

"Mr. Rodriguez... I am sorry to say this, but she did not make it... It turns out that the cancer was already at stage four and spread throughout her body and that is what caused her to pass away.." The nurse said.

"What...? B-but she was okay..." Alex said before bursting into tears.

"That us what sometimes happens... But I am sorry... We tried everything to save her... I will give you some space..." The nurse said and left.

Alex immediately woke up from his sleep and was breaking out in a sweat. He realized he had a nightmare. He turned over and looked at Jennifer who was sleeping peacefully. He shook her softly and she woke up immediately.

"Papi, what's wrong?" Jennifer said worriedly but in a sleepy voice.

"Please don't ever leave my side... Promise?" Alex asked worriedly as his eyes were all watery.

"Baby what is this about..?" Jennifer asked.

"Just promise me okay?" Alex said as he looked at her with tears streaming down his face. Jennifer couldn't tell he was crying because it was dark in the room.

"Okay..? I promise.." Jennifer said as Alex pulled her close to him.

"I don't ever want to lose you...I need you forever and always. I love you.." Alex said as he began to cry silently.

"I love you too baby.." Jennifer said and snuggled into him then went back to sleep.
