Duskflower's Story

Chapter 7: Warrior Ceremony

Five moons past before Duskpaw and her littermates could take their warrior assessment. They could barely eat that day. Their mentors called them and explained to them what they had to do. 

"You will enter in the forest and try to catch as much prey as possible. After that you have mark the territory around our border with ThunderClan. Your littermates will do the other two." Explained Stormheart.

"Got it."

  She slowly entered the forest and caught the scent of a mouse. She slowly approached but when she tried to jump, the mouse ran.

You mousebrain. She thought to herself. 

She went further in and found a small sparrow and slowly pounced and killed the sparrow. 

"Thank you StarClan for this prey." 

She climbed a tree and found a squirrel. She killed it and gave thanks to StarClan. She tried to catch a pigeon but she failed. But soon afterwards she caught a thrush. She buried her prey and went towards the border. 

The rest of the assessment went without a hitch. She returned with a sparrow, a thrush, and a squirrel.

Not bad, she thought, but I wonder what Stormheart will think.

She went and found her littermates.

"Well what do you think?" She asked them.

"I think I did well but I didn't catch two mice" Said Blossompaw.

Joypaw didn't answer. Duskpaw assumed he was too worried. Joypaw wasn't very talkative. Or at least he wasn't to her and Blossompaw.

Mossflame came over to the three and reassured them. 

"Don't worry. You guys did great."

"I remember your assessment Mossflame, how tense you were after that."

"Hey."

 Soon after Willowheart and Moustail came over.

"I can't believe my three kits will be warriors today."

"Willowtail, we still don't know yet." Said Blossompaw.

"I am positive they will give you your warrior names."

Stormheart, Primrosepetal and Whitefang came over to the three of them.

"Congrats, you guys passed." Said Primrosepetal.

Blossompaw and Duskpaw started jumping up and down with excitement. Joypaw just thanked Whitefang and went over to Hailstorm.

Willowtail was almost as excited as them. She was also jumping up and down with them. 

"Oh you are going to be such great warriors."

Branchstar called a Clan meeting.

"May all cats old enough to catch their own prey come to the Lightning Rock for a meeting."

All the cats came of their dens and started making their way to the Lightning Rock. Hopkit, Fallkit and Flykit also came out. She could hear Rosevine's kittens squealing and asking if they can go as well.  Rosevine's kitten's were too small, she had kitted them only a moon ago. But Lionkit, Morningkit, Nettlekit and Priklekit were as energetic as any kit. 

She went up the Lightning Rock with her littermates and waited as Branchstar called out their names. 

"I, Branchstar, leader of  LightningClan , call upon my warrior ancestors to look down on this apprentices. They have trained hard to understand the ways of your noble code, and I commend them to you as a warrior in their turn."

 "Blossompaw, do you promise to uphold the warrior code and to protect and defend your Clan, even at the cost of your life?"

"I do"

"Then by the powers of StarClan , I give you your warrior name. Blossompaw, from this moment on you will be known as Blossomflight. StarClan honors your courage and energy, and we welcome you as a full warrior of LightningClan.

" Duskpaw, do you promise to uphold the warrior code and to protect and defend your Clan, even at the cost of your life?"

" I do" 

"Then by the powers of StarClan, I give you your warrior name. Duskpaw, from this moment on you will be known as Duskflower. StarClan honors your spirit and loyalty, and we welcome you as a full warrior of LightningClan"

This is the greatest day of my life!

"Joypaw, do you promise to uphold the warrior code and to protect and defend your Clan, even at the cost of your life?"

"I...I..I do"

"Then by the powers of StarClan , I give you your warrior name. Joypaw, from this moment on you will be known as Joystripe. StarClan honors your independence and dedication, and we welcome you as a full warrior of LightningClan.

"Blossomflight, Duskflower, Joystripe!" Yowled the Clanmates. 

I wonder why Joystripe was being hesitant, he was probably just nervous I guess. 

Mousetail and Willowheart rushed towards their kits.

"Oh I am so proud of all three of you!" Said an excited Willowheart.

"You three are great additions to the Clan." 

Their clanmates started to congratulate them.

"You'll be sharing a den with us now." Said Hailstorm.

"Oh I almost forgot about that, Mossflame snores in his sleep so I am warning you ahead of time." Advised Fallsplash. 

"Thanks for the advise." Giggled Blossomflight. 

Why is Blossomflight giggling? She never does that with anyone. I wonder if she likes Fallsplash. 

The newly-made warriors went on the Lightning Rock and sat a silent vigil.

I know this is important but it is really cold out. 

She went closer to Blossomflight for warmth. They spent the rest of the night in the cold silence.
