Kailey awoke the next morning feeling a little lighter than she had the night before. She wasn't really up to going to school but it was highly unlikely that that was a choice she'd be given, especially considering Laura was now knocking on her door to tell her that breakfast was ready.
She crawled out of bed, changing into her outfit for the day to avoid raising any suspicions about her wearing her outfit from the day before. She didn't bother brushing her hair, her succubus genes ensured that it was clean and untangled. Honestly, that was one of the few good things about being a succubus, she never had to bother about her appearance because she would always look at least semi-decent.
She huffed before trudging out of her room down to the kitchen. She wasn't hungry but she should eat if only to avoid an interrogation as to why she wasn't eating. Though she didn't even need to eat or sleep. The only sustenance she needed to survive was sexual energy but hey, food and sleep weren't exactly the worst things in the world. Far from it.
She bumped into Mika on the stairs who quickly embraced her.
"Hey, Kailey... How are you feeling?" she asked gently, letting her go and continuing down the stairs.
"Peachy," She mumbled. "How about you?"
"Peachy. Have you started packing yet?"
Kailey paused. "What do you mean packing??"
Mika paused. "We're moving into Grandad's house today... Did you not hear me last night? I did say though I suppose you may have already been asleep seeing as you didn't respond..."
"Wait why the hell are we moving into his house?? He literally just died yesterday, even if it were in his will I doubt he would've wanted the whole family moving in only 1 day later!!" She said, irritated by the lack of respect being shown. It definitely wasn't Mika's idea, she seemed just as miserable about the idea as Kailey was, so it was probably her adoptive father, David. He'd always had a lack of common decency so it was no surprise that he'd come up with something as utterly stupid as this.
Mika sighed slightly, understanding Kailey's frustrations. "Not the whole family. Just us two... And yeah, it's way too soon but apparently, it's good practice for me living alone-ish for College and well... Dad just wants to get rid of you, to be honest."
Kailey scoffed. "Yeah, that's not surprising at all. He's always hated me. And he's always been a total dick."
Mika sighed and looked at Kailey as though she might scold her language though she didn't exactly look inclined to disagree with what she had said.
Kailey was about to continue her rant on what a crappy person David was when she saw him walking into the kitchen, where the two girls were about to go. If she'd focussed less on scowling at her adoptive father then she'd have noticed the little cringe that Mika did beside her, slightly raising her hand to her cheek.
The two girls walked into the kitchen and were both completely ignored by David, though the cheery "Good morning girls!" from Laura more than made up for it.
The two girls smiled, ignoring their father as much as he ignored them and greeted their mother with almost the same enthusiasm she had managed.
After a rather awkward but thankfully quick breakfast, the girls ran back upstairs to prepare their bags (and themselves) for the school day. Kailey also quickly packed the few belongings she had accumulated in her 8 months in the human world. They weren't leaving until after school and it was likely that they'd have time to grab some things before they left but it was best to be prepared just in case.
Once they were both ready, they finally left to school, both of them dreading the day ahead.
