"MUST I SAY YOUR STANDARDS DEAR DAUGHTER ARE VERY LOW", Ares said in a low voice.
"What do you mean".
"You still don't know", Ares mocked with a deep laugh.
"No..Can you tell-"
"No I cannot".
"Why can't you?"
"Because I don't want to".
"Fine", Zola sighed as she took a seat on a nearby rock. "Who's in the car?"
"She will introduce herself...You know I do love you and your mother".
"Then why is this the first time i've heard from you in years".
"Gods have duties".
Zola scoffed, "If that means running round and impregnating other women, then sure". She muttered under her breath.
"What was that?", Ares smirked.
"Nothing", Zola answered back even though she was pretty sure Ares heard her with his Godly hearing and all that.
"I must say you have gotten pretty skilled with the throwing knives but you must do better. Do not let that Percy boy take the spotlight away from you. Do you understand".
"Yes sir"
"Okay good give me your knives. I'm going to add something to it".
Zola flicked her wrists and handed her father, her knives. Ares held the knives in his hands as they caught on fire. "There", he said as he passed them back.
"What does it do?", Zola asked as she inspected the knives which still looked the same as before.
"You're going to have to figure that out on your own".
"But why can't you just tell me?"
"Where's the fun in that?"
Just as Zola was about to retort, Percy stepped out of the white limousine red faced and avoiding Zola's eye.
"In you go!", Ares said as he dragged Zola into the limousine and shut the door behind her.
When Zola looked up and saw who it was, her jaw dropped.
She was wearing a red satin dress and her hair was curled in a cascade of ringlets. Her face was the most beautiful Zola had ever seen: perfect makeup, dazzling eyes, a smile that would've lit up the dark side of the moon.
When she smiled at Zola, her ocean eyes twinkled. Wait ocean eyes hold up-
Zola knew exactly who she was.
"Ah, there you are my dear", the goddess said. "Do you know who I am?"
"Aphrodite", Zola guessed. "Goddess of Love".
"Aww aren't you sweet. Do you know why you are here".
"No not really".
"Still in denial?", Aphrodite giggled.
"What do you mean?"
"Oh..Young love. Sweet romance", Aphrodite gushed.
"I don't love anybody like that though. Wait who loves me?"
"It's a secret".
"So someone does love me, like that..."
"Now listen to me, the Hunters are your enemies. Forget them and Artemis and the monster. That's not important."
"But it is-"
"I sense a love triangle..or is it a square. This is so exciting, I haven't had this much fun with such a tragic love story since like Helen and Paris. Remember love conquers ALL".
"Didn't Troy and Paris start the Trojan War and get thousands of people killed?"
"Pfft. That's not the point. Follow your heart".
"But...I have no idea where my heart is going".
"That's half the fun", She said with a wink. "Oh my Gods you kids are so cute i'm going to cry".
"Please don't"
"And don't worry", she said. "I'm not going to let this be easy and boring for you. No, I have some wonderful surprises in store. Anguish. Indecision. Oh, you just wait".
"Please don't. I'm not ready for heartbreak".
"Oh sweetie don't worry there will be plenty of that"
"But-"
"Oh yes and remember to be careful in my husband's territory. Don't take anything. He is awfully fussy about his trinkets and trash".
"I..um..okay", Zola said as the door opened wide and Ares grabbed her out of the car to stand next to where he and Percy were waiting.
"How was it my dear daughter", Ares asked smirking.
"Confusing", Zola bluntly responded.
"Well see you Zola and you better make me proud", he then turned towards Percy. "You're lucky, punk. Be grateful".
"For what?", Percy said.
"That we're being so nice. If it was up to me-"
"So why haven't you killed me?", Percy shot back. It was a stupid thing to say to the god of war.
Ares nodded, like Percy had finally said something intelligent.
"I'd love to kill you, seriously", he said. "But see, I got a situation. Word on Olympus is that you might start the biggest war in history. I can't risk messing that up. Besides, Aphrodite thinks you're some kinda soap opera star or something. I kill you, that makes me look bad with her. But don't worry. I haven't forgotten my promise. Some day soon, kid real soon you're going to raise your sword to fight, and you're going to remember the wrath of Ares".
"Ares-", Zola started but was interrupted.
"Why wait?", Percy asked as he balled his fists. "I beat you once. How's that ankle healing up?"
Ares grinned crookedly. "Not bad, punk. But you got nothing on the master of taunts. I'll start the fight when I'm good and ready. Until then...Get lost."
He snapped his fingers and the world did a three-sixty, spinning in a cloud of red dust. Zola and Percy fell to the ground.
When they stood up again, the limousine was gone. The road, the taco restaurant, the whole town of Gila Claw was gone. They were all standing in the middle of the junkyard, mountains of scrap metal stretched out in every direction.
