"NOBODY IS GOING TO DIE", PERCY SAID AS HE STEPPED FORWARDS, towards the Hesperides.
Suddenly their black, glassy, volcano rock eyes turned towards Percy, studying him with interest.
"Perseus Jackson", one of them said.
"Yes..I do not see why he is a threat", mused another.
"What do you...who said I was a threat?"
The Hesperid that had confirmed Percy's name, glanced behind herself, towards the top of the mountain. "They fear thee. They are unhappy that this one", she pointed at Thalia. "has not yet killed thee".
"Tempting sometimes", Thalia admitted.
"Thalia..", Zola hissed.
"But no, thanks. He's my friend".
"There are no friends Daughter of Zeus, only enemies", the girl said. "Go back!"
"We are not leaving without Annabeth", Zola and Thalia said simultaneously.
"And Artemis", Zoë added. "We must approach the mountain".
"You have no rights here, we need only speak louder and the Ladon will wake", the girl said.
"He will to hurt me", Zoë said.
"No?", the girl mocked. "And what about thy so-called friends?"
Before Zola could process what was going on, she heard the clear and loud call. "Ladon! Wake!"
"What the..", Zola said as the realisation settled in.
The Hesperides yelped and scattered. The leading girl said to Zoë, "Are you mad?"
"You never had any courage sister", Zoë said. "That is thy problem".
Arms raised, Zoë took a step forwards towards the Ladon.
"Zoë stop, he'll kill you", Zola said.
"Your not a Hesperid anymore Zoë", Thalia added.
"He's trained to protect the tree. Skirt around the edges. If I'm distracting him, he should ignore thee", Zoë said.
"Should?", Percy said. "Not exactly reassuring".
"Four of us together cannot fight him. It is the only way", she said.
Trusting Zoë's judgement, Thalia went left as Percy and Zola went right. Zoë however walked straight towards the monster.
'It's me, my little dragon", she soothed. Zoë has come back.
The Ladon shifted forwards, then back. Hissing and opening and closing its mouth in confusion. Meanwhile, Zola could just about make out the Hesperides shadows in the background.
"Fool", Zola heard like a harsh whisper coming from the shadows.
Zoë stepped forwards towards the golden tree as she continued. "I used to feed thee by hand. Do you still like lamb's meat?"
The dragon's eyes glinted.
Percy, Zola and Thalia were about halfway around the garden. Ahead Zola could see a single rocky trail leading up to the peak of the mountain, storms swirling above it, spinning on the summit.
Suddenly there was a piercing scream. Zola turned back towards Percy who had already drawn Riptide. Zola tugged on her necklace uncapping End (τέλος), as Thalia took the hint uncovering Aegis.
The dragon hissed and Zoë took his moment of indecision to sprint past them up the mountain.
They followed.

"The ruins of Mount Othrys", Thalia whispered in awe.
"Woah", Zola muttered.
"It was not here before. This is bad", Zoë said.
"What's Mount Othrys?", Percy asked.
"The mountain of the fortress of the Titans", Zola answered.
"In the first war, Olympus and Othrys were the two rival capitals of the world", Zoë added. "Othrys was-", she winced as she held her side.
"You're hurt", Percy said. "Let me see".
"No! It is nothing. I was saying...in the first war, Othrys was blasted to pieces".
"But..how is it here?"
Thalia looked around cautiously as they picked their way out through the rubble. "It moves the same way that Olympus does and exists on the edges of civilisation. But the fact that it is here, on this mountain, is not good".
"Yes, where he holds-", she froze. Her voice ragged with despair. "Where he used to hold up the sky".
They reached the summit. A few yards ahead of them, grey clouds swirled , making a funnel cloud that almost touched the mountain top, but instead rested on the shoulders of a twelve year old auburn haired girl in a tattered silvery dress, legs bounded to the rich with celestial bronze chains.
"My Lady!", Zoë rushed forward.
"Stop!", Artemis said. "It is a trap. You must leave now".
Her voice was strained and she was drenched in sweat it was clear that this effect on her was due to the weight of the sky she was carrying.
A booming voice spoke from behind them. "Ah, how touching".

A.N. Hi guys, as some of you who follow me may know, this year has infact been a really tough year for me, due to the fact that I am taking my GCSE's.
I just wanted to keep this short and quick and I want to inform you guys that yes, during lockdown I was updating almost daily but due to the fact I'm back at school and studying hard I will only be able to update once a week on this book (Fingers crossed).
Writing for me, is a method of stress relief and I enjoy it so much.
I honestly thank you all so much for all the support as you always seem to put a smile on my face and I don't think you all realise how much you really motivate me.
I know this chapter was short but I wanted to build up tension for the next!!
