When Samuel finally saw them in class after a week of their absence, he had mixed feelings about it, which made him confused. Relief, fear, happiness and curiosity filled him. He wanted to ask them so bad what happened in that whole week, but that seemed a little bit creepy.

His perfect opportunity came when the teacher paired the students to finish the science task.

"Sam, you'll be with the twins." Miss Clarks ordered. Everyone else looked at Samuel with grins, snickering or teasing him or telling him they felt sorry, but Samuel ignored their comments and went to sit next to the twins in the science lab. "Okay everyone." Miss Clarks said aloud, "you know what to do. If I see anyone messing around with the science equipment like five year olds, you know what would happen to you." She clapped her hands, "get to it then!"

Samuel sensed the awkwardness between them. He knew that miss Clarks paired him with the twins because news spread that he was probably the only person that could get along with them. The twins started to tie their auburn, long hair with rubber bands.

"I'll get goggles." Samuel said, smiling thinly but it didn't reach his eyes.

The twins nodded and glanced at him, showing that they recognized his presence and they weren't fully ignoring him. Samuel came back after getting goggles for his group and they put them on. He hated the foggy school goggles that he never managed to clearly see through. But it was a health and safety precaution even though they were totally useless in their harmless practical experiment.

"Are you guys going to get the other equipment?" Samuel asked.

The twins shook their heads.

Samuel frowned, "why not?"

Lucy glanced back at the shelves; then nervously glanced at Janet then back at Samuel. "There's still a crowd there."

Samuel sighed, "you guys need to fight for yourselves man." He didn't wait for a reply, instead he went to the shelves himself among other students who made fun of him for being in the same group as the twins but he ignored them again, and grabbed the rest of the equipment and laid it down on the table. He placed the Bunsen burner over the rock hard, small trey. Lucy contributed by attaching the tube into the gas. Miss Clarks came around with a match to put a flame over the Bunsen burner.

"Listen." Samuel said irritably, the awkward silence getting to him, "I know you don't want to talk to me about you, but we don't have to talk about that specifically. I'm sorry I was so nosey but I just couldn't help it."

"We don't talk to anyone else, why would we talk to you?" Janet asked with narrowed eyes.

If the students were quiet, they'd be surprised that the twins were talking, but since it was noisy, no one cared.

"Because I'm not a jerk." answered Samuel.

"That's what everyone thinks."

"Jesus, why do we always need to fight?"

"Why don't you ever get a hint? Stay away from us, or if you can't, then ignore us!"

"But I don't do anything unless you don't tell my why I should do it! I still don't get a solid answer!"

"What the hell? We're not comfortable telling you!"

"Then don't expect me to follow orders blindly madam."

"You're so desperate."

"I'm not desperate, I do what I like."

"Which makes you a jerk!"

Samuel glanced at Lucy while they kept on arguing. She was quiet the entire time. Her eyes were focused on the dancing flame of the Bunsen burner. Her lips were tightly closed and her hands were in clenched fists. Samuel wanted to ask her what's going on until in his surprise, the flame from the Bunsen burner rose to Samuel's eye level. He staggered back, staring wide-eyed at the intimidating orange flame that slowly took form into a face, a face with holes as eyes, nostrils and mouth. He soon recognised the face to be the same face as Lucy... or Janet's since they were identical twins. The orange and yellow flames licked upward on the face. Somehow, he felt the black holes as eyes staring directly at him. In that moment, his heart stopped beating.

"SHUT UP!" the fire screamed in Lucy's voice, the sound echoing in the science lab; and then the fire shrunk back into the normal flickering flame. People turned their heads in surprise. Most of them weren't on time to see everything that happened so they grew confused, especially miss Clarks since she believed that Samuel and the twins would get along and no havoc would occur.
