“You shouldn’t have said anything.” Kriey put the salad on the plate into her mouth. She chewed happily and watched as Suzie eyed her steak, Miranda ignored her chili, and Joy poked her seafood. “Now she won’t talk to us.”
Joy nodded her head and Suzie just bit her lip. Kriey didn’t even get a response from Miranda because she’s been too busy texting. She was doing it the whole dinner but nobody seemed to mind since they were all out of whack.
“There’s also another reason I asked you guys to come.” Kriey and Suzie looked at her while Miranda briefly glanced away from her screen. “Well, you know how Suzie and Kriey became a part of the group?” Kriey’s eyes narrowed but she nodded her head anyway. “I think I want to add one more.”
“Who?” Suzie asked.
“Why?” Miranda asked.
“Well, when Crystal didn’t know about the Jeremy problem, I needed someone to talk to.” Joy shrugged her shoulders and made sure she made eye contact with all of her girls. “I love to talk to you girls, but you and Suzie can’t give good advice and Kriey you don’t take sympathy on people’s feelings.”
They all thought about that for a minute before they all agreed. They each nodded their head and Miranda put away her phone. It was still vibrating but she wanted to hear who it was.
"I want you guys to meet her one on one,” Joy announced. “Her name is Avril.”
“Approved,” Kriey exclaimed.
“You know her?” Joy asked.
“We were in the nurse’s together.” Kriey dropped her fork on her plate and she took a sip of her later. “It was when Krissy died. I wanted the nurse to know what happened and I asked if she could give me surprise weigh-ins.”
“Why?”
“Well, I was scared that I might develop a disorder.” Miranda, Suzie, and Joy simultaneously nodded and realized that it didn’t hurt Kriey to talk about her sister anymore. “So when Avril showed up, I was going to leave. She asked me to stay and she told the nurse she had a disorder.”
“She told me she didn’t.”
“Not anorexia or bulimia. It’s where when you start eating, you can’t stop on your own.” Kriey nodded her head and shoved more salad down her throat. “I don’t know her well, but she’s really nice.”
"Is she that geek?” Miranda asked. Joy nodded her head yes but then she nodded no. She was a geek, but she wasn’t anymore. To straighten things out, Joy showed Miranda a picture of her. “Wow! She’s pretty!” Miranda scanned through the rest of Joy’s pictures with Avril and then laid it down. “I approve. She was a nice geek. I just hope she’s not mean now that she’s pretty.”
"If she was, Joy wouldn’t be hanging out with her,” Suzie commented. “When do I get to meet her?” She felt odd that she didn’t know who Avril was but she couldn’t complain. “I’m assuming Crystal already approved. So that just leaves me.”
"Actually I haven’t asked Crystal yet.” Kriey stopped chewing her salad, Miranda stopped drinking her soda, and Suzie bulged her eyes out. “I was going to, but then there was the whole betraying Leah thing.”
Kriey finally swallowed, Miranda put her straw down, and Suzie immediately shifted her eyes away. It seemed like nobody was in the mood for dessert anymore, so they paid and left the restaurant.
“Do you think Crystal’s going to date Jeremy now?”
Everyone shrugged their shoulders and kept walking. It was a pretty rowdy day in the mall, but the group didn’t say a single word after that. Once they got towards the end, Joy departed from the rest to go apologize to Crystal.
