Crystal smiled as she drank her water but she felt uncomfortable. It felt weird for her to go on a date and not tell any of her friends. Joy probably wouldn’t care unless Crystal came home crying or extremely mad. She smiled at Jeremy and watched him take peeks at his phone.
“This is awkward.” Jeremy nodded his head and started to shake his leg. “We could just go to the movie.”
“We’ll be an hour early.”
“I have change.” That got Jeremy’s interest and he nodded his head quickly. “Plus, I’m crazy good at Pac man.”
So, they slid out of their seats and received dirty looks walking out. Crystal got into Jeremy’s car and when they go to the movie theatre, they bought their tickets and headed for the arcade. There was barely anyone in the room so Crystal felt more comfortable about it.
About ten minutes after the movie started, did they realize they had basically missed the beginning. They ran for their movie but couldn’t care what it really was about. They just wanted to have popcorn and play more games, but they couldn’t. So, they spent most of the movie time talking and making fun of everybody’s costume. People were mad but most of them were teens too, so they understood.
“So, have you told anyone we’re dating?” he asked.
“No.” Crystal grabbed a handful of popcorn and made sure she couldn’t talk for another minute. “Me and Joy are in a fight, Miranda will probably tell Suzie who’ll tell Kriey.”
“Well…” Jeremy looked nervous and he knew that Crystal was going to be offended. “Can you not tell anyone, yet?”
“Why?”
“I haven’t told…” Jeremy racked his brain with a list of names and smiled. “Leah yet. It’s best if she hears it from one of us than a stranger.” Crystal understood that and nodded her head.
"I won’t tell a soul.”
When the movie was over, Crystal and Jeremy left with three popcorn buckets on the floor. Jeremy laughed as the first popcorn spilled on the ground, they ate all of the second one, and for the third one, they were eating it until Crystal saw spit. It was the kid who had to clean up after them.
“I’ve never seen a girl eat so much.”
“You’ve never seen Joy eat?” Crystal asked. Jeremy thought for a moment and shrugged his shoulders. “I have to go to the bathroom, anyway,” Crystal said. “Wait here.” She smiled and skipped merrily to the overflowing girl’s bathroom.
Jeremy knew she was going to be a while so he sat on a bench and tried to see if he knew anybody else here. He knew people here and there but he hardly doubted they knew him. They were all from his school and he was pretty sure that if they weren’t close friends, that they had no clue.
He would’ve kept guessing as to see if he knew who they were, but he stopped when he saw chubby, tomboy girl. She was smiling and was talking to a toned, muscular and a small, petite. They were all laughing and talking really loud, but he couldn’t stop staring because Joy caught him.
She came over and smiled her way towards him. She sat right next to him and they talked. Jeremy was on edge though. Nobody knew he and Crystal were going out and he did not want to be the one to break the news to her.
“What’s up?”
“Just here seeing a movie.”
“Alone?” Joy looked skeptical but broke into a smile. She hit his shoulder hard and leaned forward. “So where’s the girl you just picked up?”
