“So, how many of these plans do you have?” Crystal asked, curious. She didn’t really care that Joy was planning ahead but she just wanted to know because the more meant that Joy was very bad at planning.
"Four, so far.”
"So far…” Crystal thought about those words until she realized that they were useless words. She didn’t say anything to her though. “How are you and John?”
“I’m pretty sure he’s friend zoning me.” Crystal made a sympathetic face and waited for Joy to continue. Unfortunately, she didn’t and turned the subject towards Crystal. “How about you and Lenny?”
“I prefer to admire from afar.”
“While me and Faith make fun of you guys.” Joy nodded her head at her. “You both clearly like each other, but you’re too afraid to make the first move.” Joy paused for a moment and realized the truth. “Is it because Jeremy cheated on you?”
“More or less.”
“Don’t forget, Jeremy cheated on me too. I’m still in the game though.”
“With your best friend.” Crystal got up and looked around Joy’s room again. “I mean, if Lenny was my best friend I would totally just ask him. If he friend zoned me, oh well. If he didn’t, good to know.”
“If the shoes were on your feet you would have a different opinion all together.” Crystal knew that that was true but she didn’t want to say anything. “I just don’t want to ruin our friendship if he says no or we break up.”
“It worked out for Kriey and Sander.”
"They can’t even see each other anymore.” Joy shook her head and wondered for a moment. “It surprised me that he didn’t come to Pennsylvania too. With Kriey, Suzie, and Miranda moving back here.”
“He probably didn’t have enough money.” Crystal immediately regretted saying that as soon as it came out of her mouth. “I mean, not that he looks broke but…”
"I don’t care,” Joy groaned. She lies back on her bed and felt her head. It wasn’t hot but she felt like it was burning up. “I hate drama.”
“That’s why we need guy friends.” Crystal laid on the floor and looked at the pictures Joy kept all over her room. “Or when we were in seventh grade and boys didn’t matter to us.”
“Yeah, but that’s when the drama started.” Joy nodded her head. “I blame Miranda. She never had to lie to us.”
“Are you still blaming her for all of this?” Crystal licked her lips and sat up. “I thought you were seeing the counselor about this and I thought you were over it.”
“You’re making me seem like I have a brain condition. I only talk to the counselor sometimes. Mostly it’s for college.”
“I love how you started college applications and Kriey didn’t. We both know she’s probably not going to get the part for her movie.”
“I know, but it’s nice that she has dreams.” Joy instantly sat on her stomach and looked at Crystal. “I’m not seeing her for college. I’m seeing her because I found out what I want to be when I’m older.”
“A counselor?”
“More or less a therapist.” Joy tossed her head down and looked under her bed. “She did help me somewhat forgive my sisters and she gave me that anger toy.”
“Do you even use that anymore?” Crystal asked. She rummaged through some of Joy’s things until she found it. It wasn’t really a anger management thing, it was really a dog toy. Crystal used to buy them for when her dad was with her and they had a dog. She didn’t have the heart to tell Joy though. “Speaking of your sisters, how’s Jennifer?”
