I waited for Kilorn outside his house the next morning. We usually walked to school together everyday, ever since we were kids just because we enjoyed each other's company. He was always asking stupid questions out of no where, although annoying I enjoy his presence alot.

"Hey Mare Bear!" he jumped down in front of the porch "How's your morning so far?"

I looked at the time on my phone before turning it off. "Honestly Kilorn, it's 6:45, in the morning may I remind you, and I am not one for waking up early." I got up and started walking to school.

Whoever decided to make school a good 45 minute walking distance, I hope you get a paper cut on your tongue and drink some freshly squeezed lemons.

Kilorn caught up quickly with his long strides he calls 'steps'. I mean he's a good 6ft tall and I'm only 5 '2" . It's so frustrating being so short, not even average height for a girl.

"How was your date last night? More importantly, how was the food?" I scoffed at the mention of my 'date' enraged at the events that happened the night before. Kilorn could probably see how upset I was, reading my facial expressions as he always did. I was about to go into a full on rant until I remembered Cal showing up. "It was, how do I say this? It was an experience."

Kilorn raised an eyebrow, "Don't tell me you lost your v-"

"Oh my god, Kilorn no! Why would you- No!" Of all people? Me? Lose my precious card? To Jonathan of all people? Absolutely not. "Jonathan actually stood me up and I broke up with him. I'm tired of his bullshit excuses."

Kilorn whipped his head towards me, "Mare I'll-" he looked so disgusted from the Jonathan statement. I punched his arm "Can I finish my story please?" He nodded his head and rubbed his arm. "As I was saying, this guy came over to my table and we talked and hung out for a while." I shrugged as if going out with a stranger is something I did every other normal day. "Turns out, this dude actually used to go to our school, and was the football captain ." Kilorn was wide-eyed at the information, probably deciphering who it was pretty quickly. He's never been a fan of the Calore family, he believes they're all brats, and anyone associated with them as well. And to be fair, who could blame him?

Kilorn just stared at me "Are you serious Mare?"

I just shrugged "It's not that big of a deal Kilorn-"

"You're gonna ditch me for them." He scoffed and turned his gaze to the cloudy sky. "Well I mean that is a given isn't it? An opportunity to befriend not one but both Calore's in return of ditching your be- OW?"

I punched his arm once more. Kilorn always had this fear of me abandoning him after his family issues. He's incredibly paranoid of me leaving him, trading him for 'someone better'. I could never do that to him. We've been through too much just to let it go for some rich family friends.

"You're so stupid for thinking I would ever ditch you. You are my best friend, I would do anything to save you. Even if it meant faking my identity, calm down." It's true, in any lifetime I would sacrifice my all for him, even if it was just another second, for him it's worth it.

He fake sniffled disturbing my train of thoughts and wiped an imaginary tear from his eye "That was so sweet Mare."

"Yeah well don't be expecting that more often." I pushed him a little.

We talked the rest of the way about stupid things. When we arrived at school we said our byes and headed to our group of friends. I was looking around for Maven when I noticed a certain someone approaching me.

Jonathan.

Instantly I tugged Killorn's arm into the opposite direction. It was only seconds later before I felt a familiar hand grasp around my wrist. I jumped at the contact wiggling my hands to free myself from his evil grasp but it was no use. As I tried to ease my breathing I heard his cruel voice. "Babe,"

"I'm not your 'babe' anymore. It's over, we're through, I'm tired of being stood up every date night we had." I said to him with as much venom I could muster. I was panicking, I knew it, he knew it, Kilorn knew it. He smirked, well aware of what was happening knowing damn well he had the advantage right now.

"C'mon Marey, don't be like that, I was busy last night I could make it up to you." He whispered the last part in an eerie whisper. I felt myself shudder before feeling Jonathan's hand disappearing from my wrist. Kilorn had removed his hand, oh what would I do without Kilorn. "Hands off." He said as I circled my hand around my wrist trying to sooth my nerves. "Every time your excuse and apology was the same. "Something came up, I'm sorry I'll be there next time." and surprise surprise, there was never a next time." I shouted at him standing next to Kilorn regaining my lost confidence. "So when I say I'm done I mean it." I hissed at him, full venom this time.

"You can't dump me. We've been through alot together." He reached for me once more. Kilorn stepped in front of me. "I'm sorry, I promise this time I'll be there." I glared at him and nearly stepped forwards to scream at him once again.

I stopped noticing there was a little crowd and I also noticed Maven storming through. "What is the meaning of this?" Maven shouted at Jonathan. Kilorn pushed Jonathan onto the floor. "She doesn't need you, asshole." Maven stood next to Kilorn and gave Jonathan a glare, "Wouldn't it be a shame if Jonathan here disappeared from the school Kilorn?" He reached for his pockets, as if he was going to go through with the threat.

Maven's parents basically owned the school, meaning he could expel anyone he wanted to at his own wish. Of course he's never done that before so the fact he was doing it for me warmed my heart.

"I don't think anyone would mind Maven." Kilorn said as he cracked his knuckles.

I tapped both of them on the shoulders and they turned to look at me. "You guys are being dramatic, let's go." I dragged Maven by his ear and Kilorn by his collar. The crowd made way for the three of us as we left Jonathan on the ground.

"Seriously Kilorn? Cracking your knuckles? You're on the swim team, not the weight-lifting one. And Maven, you can't just threaten people-"

"I actually can."

"Swimming gave me some muscles you know."

I glared at them and they shut up pretty quickly.

"Mare you sound mad, but you're on the verge of smiling-"
"Maven shut up right now you fucking nerd." I say with a huge grin on my face. "Ohh Mare Bare you gotta get better at concealing those feelings of yours." As I was about to respond while stepping out of the school I saw a very very familiar car, and a certain someone standing outside the car. Maven rolled his eyes and Kilorn looked away from him.

"Cal, you were supposed to leave a while ago." Maven said, sounding cold and distant

"Yeah but I heard something from inside and waited in case you got hurt or something." He said as he turned around to look at us. "Mare-" he paused and glanced at me like I was an alien "Hi, did you get home safe?"

Maven raised an eyebrow at me and Kilorn muttered something and went back inside the school. I'll kick him later.

A light blush crept up my neck, "Yep." I said popping the p. If possible Maven raised his eyebrow higher then cleared his throat. "Anyways go home dear brother, me and Mare obviously have some catching up to do." He turned around and grabbed my shirt and dragged me into the school.

"What happened last night?" He asked, highly concerned. I explained to him the Jonathan thing and how I met Cal. "So you're the reason he was happy like he was on drugs? By the way, you have a good effect on him." I nodded but shrugged as if it was nothing. "It was like a friend thing, you know, things friends do." "Oh so you're friends with a stranger you met yesterday?" He mischievously grinned after that sentence. "Well isn't that how you make friends?" I raised my eyebrows at him. When he was about to say something the bell rang.

"Would you look at that, the bell rang, I have to go to class now bye Mavey." I scurried away from him with a sigh. Saved by the bell.

A/N: So this was the last rewrite, it could take me another week to come up with a new chapter, and I know the title seems scary but it was a chapter reference lol. Anyways yeah it might take 2 or 3 weeks for the next part so just hang tight xoxo
