The Files

Nancy and Jonathan pulled up to the Wheeler residence that Sunday morning after getting some coffee. They had discussed what to do when they get the files and what to look for.

"Okay," Nancy said shutting the door of Jonathan's car. She looked over to his house and saw that Hopper was home. "You sure you don't want me to come with?"

The day before, they decided to ask for the files when the files were all in boxes so they could have them all together and they could just start right away. Now all Jonathan has to do is ask Hopper for them.

"Yeah," he said starting to walk to his house. "I'll be back soon."

Nancy watched as he made his way to his house. She sighed in anticipation leaned her back against his car. Now, it's just a waiting game. She thought.

Jonathan entered his house to see his mom on the couch, deep in thought. From looking at her posture which was hunched over and her face looked like it was stressing, he thought is was best to leave her with whatever's on her mind.

He made his way up the stairs and stopped right outside of El's room. Her door was shut and the lights were out, but he wanted her to be there. He wanted her to be over at Mike's or at school, but she wasn't. It was because of Brenner, and what he was doing right now will help her and their family.

He continued past her room along with his and Will's. He stopped at Hopper's closed door and took a deep breath before he knocked quietly on the door.

"What?" Hopper's voice was heard from the other side. He sounded angry and not in the mood to talk, let alone give people files of important documents to help with his daughter's murder. But he had to do this, for El.

"It's Jonathan! Can I come in?" He asked and waited a few seconds for his answer.

A sighed was heard. "Sure."

Jonathan opened the door and saw Hopper sitting on the edge of his bed looking back at him. His eyes traveled the room until they landed on what he came for. The files.

"Can I ask you a question?" Jonathan gulped looking back at Hopper.

Hopper closed his eyes and threw his head back. "Is this about your mother? 'Cause what she's saying is-"

"No! No, not that!" Jonathan cut him off. He didn't need to know about whatever was going on between the two, that was their business. "I don't know know anything about what you're talking about."

"Oh!" Hopper said immediately lightning up. "What's up then?"

"I was wondering what you were going to do with the files?" He pointed to the boxes behind him.

"Well, I was planning on putting them in the attic. Why do you ask?"

"Because, I was hoping that I could take them off your hands." Jonathan said nodding his head nervously.

Hopper raised his eyebrows shocked at what he just said. "Why would you want to do that?"

"I want to look through them." Jonathan said trying to keep his cool.

Hopper ran a hand down his face and sighed again. He paused for a second before turning back to the boy and said, "You are just like your mother."

Jonathan's eyebrows came together. "What do you mean?"

"No, my turn to ask a question." Hopper said kinda annoyed. "What are you going to be looking for when you go through them?"

"I don't know, a clue you might have over looked." Jonathan shrugged.

"Look, kid, I've looked through every single one of those pages in each file at least twice. I don't think I would have missed something in there twice." Hopper put emphasis on  the 'twice'.

"Well, you aren't going to be looking through them anymore, right?" Jonathan asked trying to reason with him.

"Correct." Hopper said not looking like his going to budge.

"And you're done with the investigation, so you won't be needing them anymore."

"I never said I'm never going back to the investigation. I'm only going back when I find a clue or think of a lead."

"Right, and I don't think that's happening anytime soon. Do you?" Jonathan asked now knowing he's going to win this battle.

Hopper inhaled, clearly annoyed and also knowing where this was headed. "I don't think so." He sighed.

"Then what's the harm of giving them to me for a few days?"

Hopper opened his mouth to answer but was quickly cut off by Jonathan before he even got a word in.

"I promise that I will put all the papers back into their respected files and all the files in the same box. It will be like I never even touched it."

Hopper scowled at him. Damn it. He thought.

Nancy looked at her watch for the hundredth time in the past five minutes. Jonathan had yet to come back with anything and she was starting to get worried that he wouldn't get it. But all that worry went away when she saw Jonathan walk outside with a box labeled 'Hawkins Lab' in his hands.

She smiled as she walked over to him. "You got them!" She said looking at the box.

"This isn't it." Jonathan shook his head. "There's five more boxes in Hopper's room for us to get."

Nancy looked at him with shock at the number of boxes. "No way!"

"Yeah way!" He smiled back at her. "Where do you want to put these?"

"Um...how about in my room? That way we have a lot of floor space to lay them out."

"Okay." Jonathan said starting to walk towards the Wheeler's house.

"Wait!" Nancy called making him stop.

He turned around to face her. "Yeah?"

Nancy smiled sweetly at him before giving him a quick but sweet kiss. "Thank you." She said after breaking apart from him. She smiled again before going the opposite way to the Byers' house and helping with the boxes.

Today's going to be a good day. She thought before stepping into the house and out of Jonathan's view.

Authors note
I love the ending of this chapter. It brings the happiness my book has been missing for a while now. I can't wait to write more for this story.
