"Nana?" She tugged on the old womans sleeve. "When is Daddy picking me up?" She asked. The Woman glanced across the room at the clock nervously. "Soon. Don't worry dear. I think there are some cookies left in the-"
"I don't want cookies, Nana! I want daddy." The little girl protested, stomping her light up sketchers. "Bandit Way, you know that's it is jot polite to speak like that." She scolded. Bandit opened her little mouth to apologize just when her grandmothers wall phone rang loudly. She shuffled over, glancing st he clock once more before answering. "Hello?" She began. "Hi Mrs. Way, its Frank." He said sounding anxious. "Oh are calling to say he came home first and he's on his way now, to pick up Bandit?" She wondered. He paused for a moment, to collect his thoughts. "No I ... I was calling to see if he was there. Its almost six o'clock now isn't it? I've called him twice and he hasn't answered. Do you think he's alright?" He worried. Gerard's mother sighed, in the way parents do. "I thought he was finished with these anticts a long time ago. Ill drive her home.l and until them, you keep trying to get a hold of him." She ordered, hanging up the old phone.
The whole car ride home Bandit was full of questions. "Why didn't daddy pick me up? Is he okay? What time is it? Is my other daddy home?" She was a very curious little girl. Mrs. Way however couldn't shake the feeling that something was wrong. "Honey, you know it's hard for me to drive when it's getting dark like this when your talking. Don't worry, everything will be fine." She told her. A good while of silence went by that Bandit spent staring out the window at the darkening sky. She had many more questions, probably too many for a girl her age. She would wait though. Bandit didn't want to make driving any harder for her grandmother. So the young girl spent the reminder of the ride home gazing out the window. She watched all the other houses fly by and wondered if there was another little girl, somewhere out there, having a bad feeling about her dad. When her grandmother finally pulled into the familiar driveway, her silence continued. She waited for Nana to come around and help her out of the car seat. And waited until they were nearing the door.
"Nana?" She asked quietly. "Yes, sweetheart?" The old women replied. Night had fallen quickly today, she observed. The wind was begining to pick up and the temperature began to drop. She looked back st her son's daughter. "What's wrong" she asked.
"Is Daddy sick again?"
