Nico
Why was there a giant army? Not giant like huge, but as in actual giants. Why would they be tracking us down?
When they materialized, they found themselves at the beach. Again.
Face-first into sand.
Again.
Ughh, Nico thought. He was too tired to get up. Transporting himself a few feet like his trick back there was nothing. But hundreds of miles with two people and a giant magical statue?
Let's just say it made him want to sleep for a couple of years.
He heard someone or something laugh. He wasn't sure which one it was. Work, brain, work!
"Come on, Death Boy, quit laying in the sand." Reyna. That was Reyna. And doesn't she know that he was- wait.
Death Boy?
He got up and managed to brush most of the sand off. He looked up and glared at her. "'Death Boy?'"
His glare didn't faze her in the least. She smiled a little. "It seems to fit you."
He rolled his eyes, "Very funny." He turned to the vast ocean behind him, which now seemed more of a dark blue kind of color. On either side of him were two different places to settle. To his right was a small cave surrounded and almost hidden by trees. The trees would make excellent protection and hide them. To his left was a dense forest.
He clapped his hand together and turned around. "Okay, decision time. We can either take shelter in that forest or the cave." Coach and Reyna looked at each other, then looked back at him and said "cave".
"Alright then, let's go." Not before taking one step did he hear something. A hiss. Coach Hedge looked around, "What was that?" "I'm not sure," Nico answered, "but we should be careful."
Just then, a long figure shot out of the ocean waves. It towered above them, hissing menacingly. "It's a sea serpent!" Reyna yelled.
She was right. It looked like a sea-green snake that had sharp ridges running down its back, from head to tail. It's head was diamond shaped and its eyes shone a poisonous yellow. Something dark green dripped from two long, sharp fangs peeking from under its lip.
Reyna's eyes widened. "It's poisonous! Stay away from its mouth!" The sea-serpent hissed louder and shot poison at her. It missed her, but the dark green sludge landed on a patch of grass. In seconds, the grass changed to an unhealthy yellow and wilted. I..think I better not touch the poison. The serpent slithered lightning-fast towards her and spit at her again.
Reyna cried out in pain as the poison hit her arm. Slowly, Nico was seeing its weakness. The serpent seemed to be relying on front vision only, making in almost blind around the edges. If I move slowly enough, it might not see me. The sea-snake slithered from side to side, glaring at Reyna.
Nico slowly started moving towards her. Coach saw what he was doing and winked at him. Oh no.
The satyr yelled, "DIE!", and charged at the snake. It jerked backwards as Coach tried to hit him and focus on the raging satyr. It's tail lashed out, making sand fly all around them, but Coach simply jumped over it and smashed his club on its tail, making it howl in pain.
Reyna was also trying to attack, but she was holding her arm to her chest and her face was scrunched in pain. He moved faster towards her, but the serpent whipped around and hissed at him.
Nico's hand immediately went to him sheath, but his sword wasn't in there. Where is my sword?
He spotted something that looked like a shiny black stick thrown in the sand about 50 feet from him. Schist. The yellow eyes of the serpent bore into him, but he still saw Reyna and Coach Hedge hacking away at it.
"Ahh!" Nico shifted to see Reyna fall in the sand, her jeans torn at the knee and bloody.
The tail must have caught her by surprise. She'll never be able to get up with her arm like that. Worry unlike anything he'd ever felt built up in him as he ran toward her.But his sudden movement wasn't planned out. The sea-serpent hissed and spit poison at him.
He couldn't dodge it.
The pain was worse than anything he'd ever felt. His arm felt like it was being dipped in acid. Everything was washed in red and he slowly realized that he had fallen over. Black spots danced in his eyes.
The last thing he saw was Reyna looking up from the ground at him. Her eyes widened and everything turned pitch black.
MWAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAAAAAAA
A cliffy!
This was a really short chapter, I know.
But when I wrote it at first, it was going to be much shorter.
I guess I'm starting to see how writing works...
Oh well!
In your demigodishness and all that, peace out!
