Overall Review
Still alive is a Young Adult/Teen fiction thriller. The main character, Rachel Buffay, is a student. She is in her thoughts a lot (at least in the first two chapters) and the reader is told in-depth about the things that go on inside her head. Her best friend Crystal has disappeared and Rachel is very worried. Rather than relying on the police to find her friend, Rachel teams up with a boy, Andrew Knight, to try and find her friend.
What I enjoyed
The introduction of the book is great. I like that you have included pictures of the main protagonists, and there is a table of contents. It is a great way to start the book because it creates familiarity to the main characters of the book right off the bat
The use of gifs and pictures at the beginning and end of chapters incites curiosity and adds entertainment value. It is a very simple and very effective tool to add color to the story.
I like that you made the main character flawed and relatable. For example, she knows that her handwriting is scary but will never admit it.
Andrew Knight was introduced in a good way. He comes off as rude at first, but tolerable at second.
You mention in the introduction that English is not your first language and that you want flaws to be pointed out to you - good attitude, positive spirit
Second chapter ends on a cliffhanger. Cliffhangers have an addictive effect, well done.
I like the names of the main protagonists. They have good names.
Constructive Criticism
As I am sure you know, there are some problems with the language. There are minor grammar and spelling mistakes. Sometimes you are using words incorrectly. (for example low-profile risk) I recommend using grammarly (it is free) and reading stories from native speakers to gradually build the language skills. Don’t get discouraged!
The book builds up slowly. The first chapter did not excite me. Maybe less thoughts and more feelings and actions.
Overall Thoughts
At least in the first few chapters, the story line does not feel unique enough for my taste. However, the characters have a realistic feeling to them and are funny at times. At the end of the second chapter, I felt like this is building up to an interesting story.
Personal Rate:
5.5/10 The first chapter should catch the audience. The first few lines are very important because a lot of people will not read any further if they do not like them. There are definitely some improvements to be made from the language perspective as well.
